I unplugged the MAF sensor a few days ago. Nothing changed in engine power or response that I could discern. Now, however, the engine will briefly cut out at speed. Sometimes at idle the engine will stumble but catch itself just before is stalls. If i plug it back in the problem disappears. I read in other posts that the MAF serves no purpose other than activating the EGR system. Anybody else notice a problem like this? I have an 06 with ~41k miles.

Mine runs great with the ORM. Are you sure you pulled the right plug??

That's the right one but not sure how it and your problem are related. Noticed the EHM in your signature, where do you have your open hose vented? I undid mine because of all the oily mess.

Here is the link showing the proper plug, the other one on the air filter box is the wrong one. Mine runs much better and gets much better mileage.

I certainly pulled the connector marked in that thread.

As for the EHM, my hose vents into atmosphere. I have 2 sections of steel wool rolled and stuffed into the hose at the beginning and end. The end is plugged with holes a few inches before the plug. The wool gives surface area for oil to condense and the plugged hose catches the oil. I gt the idea from a post in this forum.

Not sure what to think about the ORM; is there something different about 06's that Jeep did to kill the mod?

My 06 works fine in ORM, you may have another problem causing your running problem.

I think that's a fair assessment. So i decided to unplug the MAF and read the codes: P102 and P401. MAF and EGR. Those are sensible codes for an unplugged MAF. Noticed the hesitation again; plugged it back in and no hesitation. At least it's consistent.

I can't be the only one who's experienced this. :?

I do not get a code P401, you have an EGR problem that may be also related to the FCV.

Have you cleaned your map sensor on the back of the engine on the drivers side, I first took mine out and cleaned it at 15,000 and it was so gunked up with soot I could not tell what the part was supposed to look like, ever since unplugging the maf sensor it stay perfectly clean it now only requires a simple wipe of a paper towel that's it.

What kind of temperatures do you have? I have noticed something like this with my MAF sensor unplugged when it is cold. It seems to starts around 0 to -5C and gets worse with colder temps. I'm still not sure if it is the ORM or air in my diesel; I am still experimenting. There was one other post noting this ORM behavior in cold weather about 7-10 days ago. I will try to find it.

I'm also in that temp range. Mornings are around -5C to 0C. I'll look for that post too; maybe something was discovered then.

I haven't looked at the MAP sensor since the problem isn't there when the MAF is connected. I will probably pull that thing out next weekend.

Here it is.
http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=39452

I don't think anything regarding the cold was discovered then but if the ORM is causing problems in the cold then we may be discovering something now.

Has anybody done the ORM in cold weather (Say -5C, or 20F or colder) with no problems? Can anyone think of something the MAF sensor would be needed for in colder weather?

...and I had no problem with the ORM.
What I do notice about the cold is:
1) Feels like I am towing a heavy trailer until the oil in the differentials and transfer case thins out.
2) Shocks are stiff.
3) Seat is cold.
4) Engine is slightly louder.

I can't blame bean counters for any of the above items, all the other cars and trucks act the same.
