Gutted the kitty this afternoon using a hammer and a loooong screwdriver. When that didn't work too good, I got a piece of 3/4 inch pipe and continually hammered into the matrix to break it up. I shook as much as I could out and started the engine. There are still a few pieces stuck to the sides of kitty so for now, Im just going to leave flange bolted together with on bolt offset to one side and hopefully the rest will blow out. Hard to get all pieces out due to the taper into larger cavity of kitty. That chemical smell is gone and now it smells like real diesel exhaust.

Do you have to get all of the ceramic-like matrix out or is it okay to leave some that is adhered to the inside wall of kitty?

Mine still has matrix stuck to the sides where I could not reach with the drill bit. It wont hurt a thing with such a large hole in the middle for easy air flow.

I didn't feel comfortable leaving pieces stuck to the sidewalls of kitty so I got a hammer and went around outside and broke the pieces loose. Now the inside is completely clean Today, mileage on EVIC is already about 1- 1.5 MPG better. Maybe just wishful thinking.

I would love to know if anyone has seen better mileage or power from this.. Frankly, my wife can't stand the smell and liked our Dodge diesel true exhaust smell better. I have been trying to figure out why these things don't get better mileage than they do.

I'll let you know in a week or so what my mileage evaluation from this is, in my 25 mile one-way commute this afternoon, the EVIC went all the way to 29 MPG. I have never seen it go that high before. But a full tank should tell the real story...stay tuned! And BTW, the exhaust smell no longer has that chemical smell, just diesel.
