If it includes parts, it is in the ball park.

After installing the shift kit, I'd say don't waste your $$$. As GM pointed out in another thread, the computer is to smart for it and adjusts it back to 'normal.' Of course this is without the resistor. If you plan on using the resistor, go for it.

I'm not running it so I'm not 100% sure, but that's what most say. I'm not sure how harsh, harsh is. My 00 Lightning was HARSH, so to me it might not be.

Around 2 grand is a good ballpark price.

On the shift kit - there's some mechanical parts (valve retaining plate, etc) that the kit upgrades with beefier components. My tranny guy felt that regardless of the shift quality, and knowing the internals of the 545 as he did, it was worth the $60 for the upgraded parts in the valve body just from a durability standpoint.

I haven't really heard of any CRD guy complain about the durability of the actual transmission itself though. Just the TQ Convertor, hence my comment. I don't disagree with the though process though.

Good Gawd, you mean they wanted 2300 bucks JUST FOR LABOR?

2300 would be a fair quote for parts AND labor. Labor by itself shouldn't be any more than a few hundred to maybe a grand max.

Sounds like those guys are trying to make their monthly income off of you in one shot. I would agree, 2300 for labor alone is well over twice what a reputable tranny shop would normally charge.

I have a similar question that may be a subset of the main cost question here. I only want the Suncoast TC installed in mine. What should that cost? I assume that would be less than the pump & shift kit install cost.

I paid around $3,500 for mine. That included the Suncoast TC, new pump, Suncoast high output power pack (new clutch pack), shift kit and full fluid change with Amsoil. I also had to have a new valve body installed as th old one crapped itself a week after the install so I included that in the price. The new valve body was multiple revisions ahead of the one that was installed.

Very expensive but worth every cent. The only problem I have now is that when the fluid is ice cold (I am talkin 0 degree weather here) the jeep will stall when I stick it in drive if I don't let it warm up. My assumption is that the fluid is thick and the TC vane pitch is so aggressive (low stall speed) that the TC doesn't slip enough and it stalls.

In any case it certainly feels bulletproof. I would do the work again knowing what I know today.

If only the rest of the jeep was as strong as the gearbox and the motor.
