I have learned that not every KJ has the exact same size bolt head or style. When I was trying to remove the "oh crap" grip handles to get to the tweeters, the book and other people said one style, but mine were totally different. Different head and different tool needed than what all others said (and the book).

18mm(3/8" drive)

1/4" drive ratchet
3/8" drive ratchet
1/2" drive ratchet
1/2" drive breakerbar
Assorted extensions for 1/4",3/8",and 1/2" drive

10mm wrench
13mm wrench
15mm wrench
18mm wrench
21mm wrench
8"-12" cresent wrench

2-3lbs hammer
Good size flat screw driver
8mm allen wrench(or socket)
10mm allen wrench(or socket)
T20 TORX
T25 TORX
E14 TORX socket

That is the bare basic sizes needed.

35mm? I thought the size needed to remove the front drive shafts was 36mm? And in Australia we can only get that size in 3/4" drive so we need a 3/4"-1/2" adaptor as well.

Just out of interest, why carry so many different drive sizes?

Mine takes a 36mm. I do carry all those sizes in my KJ every day because I am paranoid, minus the hammer and two of the torx sockets. Besides the wheel bearings what else takes those torx sockets?
Every one I have taken off,and that's a few,has always been 35mm,though 36mm will work but will start to round the corners off the nut.The unit bearing is the only place on the KJ that takes a "E" torx bit.

Oh and I want to add one tool,I forgot a 8mm,1/4" drive socket for the front driveshaft bolts.

As for minimum requirements inside a tool box, aside from tools, one should always carry a complete tire repair kit. This item should be thought of as both a first aid kit and "tool".

The way I figured out what to carry was everytime I did work on the Jeeps I made note of the tools used. Then I bought tools acordingly for the Jeep. So when I did axles I made sure I had a 36mm socket, 13mm 12 point socket, etc. That way anything I changed out or have upgraded, parts I have seen break on the trail, I make sure there are tools do to the repairs. Some Key items past the standard type tools you should always have are a 36mm socket, 13mm 12 point socket, a C-Press, small sledge hammer, pickle fork, torque wrench. I also carry a piece of broom stick in my TJ long enough to push axle stubs out of the diff. When an axle breaks and leaves that stub bound up in there you will know why. I haven't gone through my tool box but this is a start.

I also carry a little kit to weld with 2 batteries, jumper cables (gogles welding sticks etc). And yes this works in a pinch. I am not the greatest welder but I have made repairs that got a Jeep off the trail.

Tire repair kits with a ton of extra plugs. I have had to stick as many as 20 plugs in a tire to get them off the trail.

Ratchet straps. I have used ratch straps to hold an axle in place when the pin on a leaf spring broke. Amaxingly it work to get someone off the trail and into Moab.

Hummm I will go through the trail boxes over the weekend when I pull them out of storage.
