Does anyone have any experience with this or other similar warranty companies? on the surface it would seem to be good investment as our rigs age.

I have a similar protection with Geico. For an extra $10 a month, and a $250 deductible, I have coverage that is bumper to bumper. Now it won't cover a small item, but if the turbo goes south, or I loose a TC or something, it only costs me $250. I can definetily live with that and sleep better at nights. Only condition was I had to get it when the Jeep was new, which I did.

My wife had coverage from Warranty Direct on a Suzuki Grand Vitara. She never tried to make a claim with them since the car was traded-in (for something bigger) before it was ever out of the manufacturer warranty. The price they gave her was very good and the terms seemed to be good. I was impressed with the fact that they gave her a prorated refund of the balance of the warranty since she didn't have the car any more, and she got a high percentage of it back.

I did get a quote for my Jeep when I only had 10K miles on it. The quote I got was $3,000 to take the warranty to 100,000 miles on my 2006 which only came with the 3/36 warranty. I figured for that much, I could pay out of pocket to fix anything that went wrong. And I figured with my luck, the clock would turn 100,001 miles, I'd lose an engine, and not be able to capitalize on the warranty coverage I had bought.

It will be interesting to hear what they quote you.

The Chrysler 7/70 warranty, the one that covers the most items and has a $100 per visit deductable was $2500 and you can make interest free payments on it. Mine will be paid off when it takes effect. My feelings are if you think you want/need an extended warranty your better off getting the factory warranty. I used to belong to a VW Eurovan group and many were left "high and dry" by third party companies going out of bussiness, bankrupt or selling the actuall servicing to another off shore company. I'm sure there are good ones run by reputable companies like Gyco. But you never know how good they are untill you need them and then it may be too late. Find the post about Geordi where his oil level was between the min and max levels and his engine blew up. His policy he got from CarMax denied the claim

I've used Geico on my other car. I pay 250, they give the shop a credit card number, I drive away.

I wasn't necessarily advocating for Warranty Direct or USFidelis. I was just throwing Warranty Direct out there as an option. We never had to make a claim with them, so I don't know how they treat that. I was impressed that they gave my wife a refund when she traded in her car.

A lot of things I've read, and I don't know how true it is, say that many of the manufacturer warranties are underwritten by third parties such as the above anyway. I didn't get the extended warranty for mine due to the cost. Unless I lost an engine or transmission, I couldn't think of a way I would "recoup" the cost of the warranty. For some, it's worth the piece of mind. If I'm going to buy a vehicle, I'm generally going to try to avoid the ones with problems up front. Of course I got a Liberty diesel, so there may be a little egg on my face.

Just had my driver's side window regulator let go yesterday...uggh.
