I really like it. Four door version is going to be sweet.

Make that 2!!

After the first time I took the CRD off-road, I told (asked) my wife that if and when they put the CRD in the Wrangler, I would be the first in line.

Before anyone goes and posts something bad about the new wrangler, I want let you all in on a little secret. The military is looking for a HMMWV replacement and DC is probably a little bitter that GM is building a MOPAR vehicle. Back in the 1980s, after Chrysler bought AMC, they had their big government bailout. Part of the company restructuring, Chrysler was forced to sell off its military branches. Unfortunatly for Chrysler, that was their only branch that was making any money! They lost the HMMWV and the Abrams tank plants in Ohio. Just think - the DoD has over 20,000 HMMWVs and almost 7,000 M1 Abrams MBT.

Now DC is looking to get back what should be theirs. The real reason they are building a 4 door Wrangler is to snag the gov't contract for the new HMMWV replacement away from GM. I guess we win in the end too!

It's definately a cool truck but can it actually compete with a Humvee?

The HMMWV is defenatly a capable vehicle, but its too big. Too big for city streets (had to drive on the shoulder/sidewalk in order to not cross the yellow line) and too big for the forest. The HMMWV is used as a scout vehicle in some units but its track is too wide to fit through the trees where a M38 would. While we may not be fighting in the Fulda Gap anymore, we don't need a vehicle that takes up 1 1/2 lanes of traffic.
