Okay, so I am getting ready to put a lift pump in. I don't have the time, money or patience to do the Cummins in-tank mod, so I am just going to install a universal one near the tank. Here are questions that I need answered (and sorry if they are posted somewhere in the "Where's your lift pump" thread. I didn't have the time or patience to re-read the 500+ posts in that thread.):
What size is the fuel line that I need to splice into?
Which line is the output and which is the return (or is it obvious)?
Which pump? (I know that there are alot of opinions out there but let me narrow it down; I can't afford a Kennedy or that is the way I would go. It needs to be self priming, self regulating, and free flowing on failure.)
Can I just splice into the wiring harness in the same place as the guys that have done the Cummins mod did?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Can't remember.

I used an Airtex brand Duramax replacement pump. About 40 bucks

Yes.
