Hey guys, this is a weird one.. (at least to me)

Part of my strut has bent somehow and is caught inbetween my coil springs. It still drives fine, but makes some nasty noises when I hit a bump, and has me really worried. I have a 1.5 hour each way trip planned for the weekend (interstate, not off road) and won't be able to replace the strut until at least tuesday.

Do you guys think this is safe for the weekend trip? Here's some pics so you know what I'm talking about...

Thanks!

Personally I wouldnt drive my kj with a bent coil over but its up to you. It could snap right off causing that corner of the kj to drop down. Not sure I would want to do that at interstate speeds.

Wonder how the heck that got bent?

Almost looks like the shock is broke or the upper nut came loose, but you have a real problem and don't need to be driving it until its repaired. Sorry, 45/60 minute job at most or should be, have a new shock ready

Agreed. Definitely a do not drive situation. Aside from the safety issues you dont want to risk tearing up the upper mount and having twice as much work to do.

Fix now or rental for your trip. If it comes apart worse you are going to be in more trouble.

ThunderbirdJunkie is very glad that isn't his ride home, and hopes it never enters the Cincinnati, OH area.

No, seriously.

Simply put it is when the coil ( wraps of each coil) above sits on the next coil down and so forth, it can happen due to coil springs being old and worn out, can also happen if bumpstops are not used and when you flex it puts each coil touching the one above and below, which can also make a coil go bad ( lose its strength).

thanks everyone!

based on what was said, I didn't take it on the trip :P

I'm ordering new struts today... do you think I also need to order new coils too? I'm a little leery since I have pre-lowered coils, half afraid I'll loose an inch of clearance.

I would ditch the spacer lift, and install new coils and struts. What struts did you order?

I haven't ordered any yet, I'm trying to decide if I want to buy them as a package.

I'm kicking around the idea of ordering the front end of the frankenlift package...

Set of OME Heavy Duty springs/Rancho struts and a clevis and you'll be as high as you are now and don't have to worry for several thousands of miles
