Conduit Nuts/Clevis Lift/Rear Iso Pad ?'s

As a novice to all of these things, I was just curious if anyone could give maybe a dumb downed explanation of what the conduit nuts and rear iso pads do, where they go, and how necessary they actually are. I've read a few posts on them, and I have a vague idea of what they are, but I'd really appreciate an in depth explanation.

One post gave me the impression that if you do a clevis lift, you don't need conduit nuts? And vis versa. When I install my lift, I want to get as much as I possibly can, without it getting to complicated/expensive. And I think these are some good possibilities, although my understanding of everything is somewhat clouded.

Conduit nuts and a clevis lift go hand in hand. You can do a clevis lift without the c-nuts, but they help ensure that you have the same amount of lift on both sides. And in case the shock slips on the clevis in the future, it keeps one side of the jeep from droppin an inch. Inexpensive ($2-3) insurance.

Iso pads are the rubber pads installed above and below the springs that come stock from the factory. You can get away with an extra two upper pads in the rear for about an inch of lift. They run about $15-20 each.

the round black things are the upper rear iso's, they are approx 1/2" thick

So, jack up the car, get a stand under it, take of the wheel, loosen up the clevis bolt. Get a crowbar and gently pry the clevis down. You can do a safe 3/8 - 10mm lift. Re-torque the bolt. Done.

In the electrical department of your local hardware store, you need some that are 2” ID, I would do probably 3 each side so 6 total, they should be less than $1 each

Thanks guys, that sounds good to me. These seem like some cheap ways to get that little extra bit of lift. So 3 conduit units each side, under the strut, along with the 3/8" clevis lift. And 2 rear iso pads each side.

Another question, are the JBA quick disconects worth it? Do they really help that much and are easy to use?

just a note

the conduit nuts won't work on stock shocks as there isn't a lip for them to sit against during reassembly

well.. i mean they'll work for a guide, but after assembly they'll be able to move around and rattle but ranchos and what not have a lip that they'll sit against

3/8ths or 3 nuts gives you just under an inch of actual lift in addition to whatever else you do

my ome927's (hd's) with 3 conduit nuts measure just under 22.5 inches from center of the hub to the bottom lip of the fender flare

my JBA2.5 rear coils and 2 extra upper iso pads measure just over 22.5 inches unloaded and just under 22.5 with 150lbs of tools and what nots in the cargo area

I would get the Rancho struts, so no worries there. So when you do a clevis lift and the conduits, the conduits just show you EXACTLY how much lift you are getting, correct?

And so you get an extra 3/8" of lift in the front, but how much lift exactly do the iso's give you? I guess if they are 1/2", you get another full 1" of lift in the back?

about half an inch per extra iso

if i had had actual 2.5inch rear coils i would have only used maybe 1 extra iso

however, jba2.5 rear coils are skyjacker coils, and do not actually give 2.5 inches of lift when loaded much

the 927's are supposivly 1.5 inch front lift coils, but they tend to give MORE than 1.5 inches

so somewhere between the two differing lift types and coil ratios i managed to get it ALMOST level with the 1.5 927's and a 3/8th clevis in the front and 2 extra rear ios and a 2.5jba coil in the back :lol:

by the reported figures, the back should have lifted 3.5 inches and the front about 2.5 inches but it was more like just over 2 inches front and rear if ~20 inches is stock hub to flare lip

and right.. the conduits are just a guide to make sure you get the left and right strut at the same level in the clevis

because of suspension geometry, lift in the clevis = half actual lift gained

for instance, if you put 1/4 of an inch into the clevis, you'd get 1/2 an inch of lift

i was figuring on the front 1.5 coils actually giving about 2 inches and the rear 2.5 coils actually giving just under 2 inches

so i added an inch to the rear in iso's (.5 x 2 per side) and added just under an inch (3/8th clevis = 6/8ths actual gain) to the front

and it came out almost level

it's level enough for me anyway

Sounds good to me. An extra 1" in the back, and almost another 1" in the front... 3/4" that is. So this now bares the question that a college kid now has to ask... Where do you find the cheapest iso pads? Conduits are cheap so no worries there, but for the iso pads?

Both my 02 Renegade and my Wife's 02 Sport where a hair over 19" brand new out of the box.

Sounds like JeepinJarhead and I are running the same set up, OME927 with Rancho 17505 on the front and JBA-LIB25R (Skyjacker) in the rear.

I unfortunately keep more gear in the back thus even withh 2 extra iso's each side I sink to 21.75" with out rear passengers, add the passengers and I am down to 21.25".

Thus even though I have the extra weight of the ARB bumper up front, I still didn't add the clevis rings (yet) because even with out them I am sitting at 21.5" (ie my rear sits a little proud, unless I have passengers in the rear when it levels out or sinks a hair).

I am curious to see your numbers on the rear when you are done so I know whether to change over to OME 948's or not.

i wasn't sure what the stock measurement was, all i knew was that all the way around my jeep was measuring at or under 18" :lol:

I should be doing all of this in a few weeks, my friend left for vacation this week, and the day he gets back, I leave for a week... SO after that, it's time to get our Jeeps lifted! Not our cars... JEEPS. :twisted:
