Good write up, and great tips everyone. I will be doing mine sometime soon. It looks a lot easier than the V8 Explorer I used to have :) You had to change them all by going in through the fenderwells. You could literally do it with the hood shut. Then I broke the nut right off the plug once. Good times.

Anyway, the Liberty looks a little easier, and its good to get some tips like this!

Just don`t forget to change the plugs when the engine is cool. If you try to change the plugs on a hot engine, you risk the chance of taking the threads in the aluminum heads out along with the plugs, at which point you are FUBAR`D :D (can you say heilicoil, or time sert?)

Just changed our plugs out at 30k. This writeup helped a lot! Thank you everyone. One thing to add. Not sure about other years but on the 06, there are little silicone insulators inside the quick disconnect on the coil pack. They fall out very easily and fall into the depths of the intake manifold. A well placed rag will prevent this. (To get the piece out, I used a vacuum crevase tool modified with a piece of 3/8 hose attached with some RTV. Also good for cleaning out refrigerator condenser coils!)

I bought the Bosch platinum +2 plugs and installed them on my 05 at 20K miles. The advice here and the video by McQueen on You Tube helped very much. I used two extensions, one flex joint and a long solid socket handle, 1/2 inch drive, without removing anything but the oil dipstick handle and plugged the tube with a bit of towel while I worked.
The old plugs were well gone because I do city driving often.
I drove to Lake Tahoe this past weekend and the Jeep did well under speed and at high altitudes.
Don't forget to blow away all the dust and junk Before you start the job!
Thanks for the good advice.
:D
