When I removed the front fascia for a mod I had to drill out some of the OEM plastic rivets, even before this my flares were a little loose from road vibration etc and did not fit the fender flushly in the front.

I tried the push in feathered body pannel retainers, they worked to keep them on but did not retain tension what so ever as I expected

Lowes has 7/16ths push pin rivets which are reuseable in packs of 2 for about a dollar a pack, I replaced all of the oem rivets with these and while I bruised my thumb on a few trying to get the pin in, they hold the flares on better than the oem rivets did.

To get the 7/16ths rivets in ya may need to drill the holes slighty depending on how wallowed the holes are

just a tip, figured i'd share it since i was so pleased with how well they worked

Good to know, i was planning on eventually replacing mine with either the black or Renny style, and i always thought getting them back on and keeping them solid would be a real PITA.

i tried 4 different fasteners until i used these 7/16 deals, it holds like it's 'Supposed to' plus a dab of extra in my opinion

Is there a part number that you could give me for those fasteners? My passenger side flare is pretty much falling off and I need to get it put back on.

Napa has the correct replacement rivets, part # 770-2871.

I forget the price, but I've gone through loads of them.

they're the only 7/16ths push pin rivets that Lowes carries, if you need an actual part number i can get it sometime after lunch, i have 2 extra packs in my jeep

i gave the napa OEM type rivets a try, they were one of the 4 i tried out and they held like crap compared to the 7/16ths push pin rivets and weren't reusable

i've had my flares on and off about 5 times since i put them in, haven't had to replace a fastener yet

i'll get the PN for ya in a few hours

if you have harbor freight, bag of 25 plastic rivets is like 3.99

sorry i had forgotten about the rivets

here's the info

Hillman Push-In nylon rivet 7/16th
H#881209
138232
J4

those are the numbers on the bag, i got them at lowes in the nuts/bolts/fasteners section

the reason i ended up using these is pretty simple

i tried the stock rivets and they did not hold everything together and my flares started flopping by the time i got 1/8th mile up the road to my house, the holes are slightly wallowed out

i tried 2 differet kinds of the reuseable screw type rivets, and tried body moulding push pins (the kind like what holds your interrior doors on in many cars, the feathered kind) and none of those worked worth a durn

the 7/16ths push pin rivets are similar to the rivets that hold your front fascia and what not on, ya use ya fingernail or screw driver and pull the pin out and then the whole rivet comes out and you can reuse it

they fixed the gapping that was in my flares and they're tighter against hte fender than they ever were and i've had them on and off several times and the same rivets have worked flawlessly so far

seemed well worth it to change over to these reuseable rivets in comparasson to needing a drill bit to remove the stock type rivets

I drilled extra holes that fit the fasteners that I had because i didn't like the slots that were there for the factory rivits.

Holy crap, those things looks like they'll hold alright! Thanks
Sure beats drilling rivets everytime.

I've never taken my fender flares off so I don't know excatly how they are fastened, but could you just use screws instead of rivets or fastners?

they attach at various points to your inner fender liner and the front fascia/bumper with plastic rivets

i doubt that even large self tapping screws would work for very long because you're basically sandwiching 2 things together that don't particularly care to stay next to one another hehe

and they would have to be stainless plus they are upside down (most are) so they would back out.

I have some of the stock fasteners that have turned loose and these look like the perfect answer.

What size drill bit did you use?
