Lift Install + Others

Well I've had two busy days this past week. My buddy and I went and installed our lifts, his is for a Wrangler. My Liberty got treated with a bunch of stuff, we kept busy. I installed the following...

BDS 2" Lift (Rear and Front springs, Rear shocks)
Rear Bumpstops (Rubber Mallets)
Front and Rear Towhooks
All 4 Mopar Skids
Cragar 8 Wheels
Treadwright MT/R
A Lot of Bumper Trimming
Pinchweld Pounding

One thing I learned the hard way, which everyone on his forum has said, is that I definately need some front bumpstops. Ripped my fender flare off last night, and can't find it

. I guess I deserve that...

Also, my rear bumpstops fell off. We used some sort of glue, and I thought they were on there tight, but after I wheeled it last night, both of them came off. So as of now they're just kind of rolling around in there, any suggestions for a type of glue to use and technique?

All in all, I'm extremely happy with the lift. Putting everything on was a bunch of fun, despite the language used and moments of bloodshed. I couldn't get identical before/after shots, this is the best I have... Sorry for the cell phone pics.

There is a reason I preach bumpstops, for the rear drill a hole through and bolt them on and then no worries :wink:

Someone told me that when you drill them on, it makes it harder to get the springs on. That's why I opted to glue them on after the springs were on. But I may just drill it. And I completely agree with you on bumpstops now. They're essential.

X2 on bolting the bump stops in. Installing the springs is no harder either way. Bolting them on takes more effort than glueing, but A) they won't fall off, and B) when it is time to change the coils out you just undo the bolt, remove/install spring, redo the bolt, no scraping off glue etc etc.

I'm guessing there's no way to bolt it on with the rubber mallet inside the spring, is there? I just have some basic tools at my house. I know I could rent a spring compressor, but I'd like to do it without messing with the springs. But that seems unlikely.

Don't need a spring compressor to remove,

Jack up the rear like you did for the lift
Remove bottom shock bolt let the axle down, now two ways to do long 2X4 against the frame and pry down on the rotor
or what I do
place the stock jack in between the frame and rotor/brake drum, and crank away to spread and have room to take out the spring
now drill through the hammer / bumpstop and also down through the spring pad/ 1/4 inch bolt will hold it in I use carriage bolts
To install put the spring part way on, put the bumpstop up in and put the spring where it will sit now reach in and put the bolt through the spring perch and install a nut on the bottom, do the other side and DONE!!!! :wink:

No Need to use a small bottle jack between the LCA and unibody if you remove the swaybar,or have a heavyset friend.

I put 2.5" spacers in on mine last saturday and pushed down on the brake rotor, with my back against the inner fender and got them in myself. With the sway bar off of course. But I am 6' tall, 290lbs, with a 55 inch chest. Weight and leverage! :lol:

And that TJ in the background, my friend's that got lifted... We rolled it last night :roll:

. Had to flip it back with my KJ, tug it down a hill, and it still worked! But I was in the TJ when it happened, fell off about an 8ft drop. Talk about scary :shock:

That and Troys ideas work great, but see I am old..... and lazy....... so I have to use other ways , plus all these younguns in Ohio are weaker than I am :shock:

Without these bumpstops, I'd prob have to take it easy. But I'm planning on going as of now.
