What about mounting it TO the lift-gate? run the wire up the side of the gate, and through the wiper control ruber-doomer?

i can actually relate to this... i'm wiring a licene plate back up cam to my mygig... i'm going to be doing this soom but the wire gets ran through the top and into the inside of the door... where i have to drill a hole ( my hole wil be under the chrome door lift) but yours could be anywhere on the door... now this may sound like mad... but its one tiny hole that your drill and i'm sure you could rubber grommet it off and then attch a bracket... and the antenna will lift when the door lifts

MtnLuvr,
I am going to be hooking up the wiring harness for the tow hitch this weekend so while I have the rear taillights off, I am going to try to install an antenna mount from the left rear taillight. Even though our back hatch opens up I think there will be enough clearance as long as the bracket is attached very near the corner or the vehicle.

If that fails then I am going to bracket it to the roof rails with one of those swivel brackets so it can be placed at about a 45 degree angle most of the time on the trails.

I'll post pics of whatever I end up with.
Then of course the part of figuring out where to place the radio :)

Excellent -- I'm anxious to see what you work out. While I was wheeling today through thick forest, I wound up just putting my pesky magnetic mount antenna inside the back so I wouldn't have to stop every 10 ft to put it back on top. I definitely need to a more permanent CB antenna mount before much wheeling.
