I have over 75,000 on my '06 CRD, Mostly highway miles, some person unknowing what a diesel is capable of told me "That's a lot of miles for a Diesel Engine" YEAH RIGHT

My Freightliner had over 275,000 miles on it what I was given a new truck. Ran strong burned no oil what so ever.

So what would you consider high mileage for a Liberty CRD??

I don't know for sure if this is correct, but I think I remember reading here that the VM engine is not due for cylinder re-sleeving and piston re-ringing until 300K miles. It's a crap shoot on how long the CP3 pump will last, though.

I hope to get 250K out of mine.

Ha, whoever told you that was certainly no genius.... I'm in the process of selling my old '93 Dodge Cummins diesel, with 117k miles. My roommate, who insists that he has a vast store of car knowledge because he reads lots of magazines, basically told me that I was stupid to be asking for more than $3,000 because the vehicle has "fairly high mileage."

After telling him that I would be surprised if the Cummins died before 500k, I proceeded to laugh him out of the room. 8)

Remind me again why, other than for horsepower, someone would ever want a "100k mile and I'm done" gasser?

I'd call the cummins low mileage... why are you getting rid of it?

Because I bought the CRD :)

The Cummins was my dad's old truck and was considered a 'loaner' car until my parents and I decided upon what should be my first real vehicle. As a graduate student, I don't really need two cars and I never really needed something as gargantuan as that truck.... I make lots of long distance trips, so comfort and mileage are more important that anything else.

Ya, comfort and mileage. My friend has a 93 cummins, that thing just wears me out driving it on the highway. Noise doesn't bother me that much, but the ride is just way too stiff for me to want to take it on a long road trip.

I drove it cross country in two days, fully loaded... ca. 2,000 miles @19mpg. Not bad mileage, considering, but I hurt every time I stopped to stretch. In contrast, I made the same drive in my Jeep this year and didn't stop for 450 miles, at which point I needed to use the restroom but my back and legs were in great shape.

Actually, between my last post and this one, I just sold the cummins. $5,500 :)

/hijack

CRDs should definitely get 250k+ miles, especially if you maintain the engine and do a few minor preventative things.

I have 202K on my Cummins and it still starts and runs like new. No oil use or anything.

Maybe it is time for another highest miles thread.

It should last at least 200k as long as your turbo doesn't go south... Now the CP3????

That CP3 will last with the proper caring like proper lubeing like a little biodiesel or two stroke oil or 500 ppm sulfer diesel every now and then just to take the harshness out of the ULSD.

BTW my DD CRD is 80K and going strong--

This is true... but if given the right care, you can take a gasser quite far. My other car is passing 320k miles now. Still on original engine. No leaks. Lots of little maintenance though.
