Hello All,

I am looking to add a trailer hitch to my 2002 Liberty. What hitch do you suggest? I will be towing a small boat and a small yard trailer.

Thanks

I went to U Haul it was 149.00 with the wiring and the
ball mount encluding the install. It took them about 35 minutes to do the install.
there was pllenty of hitches for around 115.00 but then I had to get the wiring and the ball mount, ball
They even put the ball mount in sideways and driled a hole so I could take the ball off and use a D ring.

I think drawtite is the best. It extends out farther to clear the spare when you would have to get a longer reveiver anyway. Stronger than any other hitch also.

Got mine here.

I've the the U-Haul and have a fairly standard clevis recovery point plugged into the receiver.

It provided EXACTLY the right amount of protection for my rear tire carrier in Moab last year.

Any longer and it would have scrubbed off to much departure angle, any shorter and I would have had to replace my rear gate.

Hidden Hitch makes a great receiver and it doesn't stick out as much as the Draw Tite so you don't lose exit angle when off-roading. I didn't have a problem with the 2" ball and the trailer I hooked up. Mopar has an expensive wiring package (compared to most others) but it is very, very easy to install (everything is there). Stress free.

Yeah, once Rock Lizards rear bumper comes out for sale, you will see quite a few rear hitches going up for sale on here.

Dkorman,If you have a 3.7L 4x4 auto trans. you are all ready set up to tow! jeep has pre installed the H.D.transmission & power steering cooling part's and like's to make you think that you have to pay $350.00 to $400.00 more just for a (hitch and wiring)! If you can see a (external transmission cooler) on the front of your radiator you are good to tow. As far as the extra HD cooling fan, the dealership told me I did not need it unless I were at high rpm's at low speeds for a extended amount of time. All you will need is a class 3 hitch, wiring and off you go to your favorite lake or campground! I myself did not know this until I done some home work. I pull a 3,000LB. boat with no trailer brake's, sway control or a weight distribution system and have no trouble. Remember when towing to, DISENGAGE THE OVER DRIVE, allow extra stopping room and give your self plenty of room to maneuver! I went to U-Haul to do my hitch and wiring. They did a very nice job, nice price and the rounded hitch is sharp looking. http://www.uhaul.com/hitches/ GOOD LUCK & SAFE BOATING!

Thanks for all of the information. Does anyone know if there is a hitch made from stainless for the Liberty? I have one on my 89 Grand Wagoneer and It is great. I launch in salt water alot. I do rinse and wash my truck after every launch and I am very carefull as to not to imerse the rear tires when I launch. I have had other hitchs on my trucks rust after a short time.

Thanks again for all off your info

To extend this subject a bit....

Not including price differences for these different brands of hitches, is there any brand out there that has better clearance (departure angle) than any others? How about the worse ones for clearance? Class III hitches only.

4wd used to list a galvanized steel hitch from Mean Green for the Liberty. I think it cost about a $100 more than std steel. I added the HD fan to my 02 because the electric was unreliable towing my 2700 lbs. travel trailer.

Hidden Hitch is probably better at departure angle than the draw tite. Since everyone seems to say the draw tite extends out farther (making for more scrapage (new word?)
