What else could it be? How often does the solenoid go bad? Can I check it's function by just putting 12v to the terminals, or will I fry something? I would hate to replace the $180 unit if it's not the problem! Sooner or later I'll do the GED but it's still nice to know it work and I have to get the cel off so I know when my next new problem starts!
Besides boost hose holes what else will cause the EGR CEL?
Thanks.

When my EGR died - the FCV died at the same time (well at least they replaced it at the same time)

are you sure that was the problem?
JL Rockies though he had a EGR problem only to figure out it was a blown turbo hose (after he replaced the EGR)

X2 on both of mine failing/being replaced at the same time. There was one code was for the EGR but the FCV had stripped gears :D

Thanks for the info guys...
SO there are a few different things that could be my issue...!

-EGR
-FCV
-MAF
-CAC hoses.

Way to go Jeep, one code 4 different, not fun to find problems!

I did give my CAC's a once over, but I didn't take the left one out, I just felt it up. At this point I wish it was the hose's because that would be a fast easy fix with some duct tape, and then order the samco's!

How hard is it to check the flow control?
Can I test the EGR?
Can the MAF be tested, or just replaced?

This jeep is driving me crazy!!!

In another thread I posted yesterday...I had to replace the electronic actuator and a solenoid.

Painemann,

Does your KJ have good performance or is it slow to launch? Do you have a P0401 or P0402 error code? This will definitely help in root causing the issue. A P0401 will point to a stuck closed EGR and the 402 could be a slow valve or one that is stuck open or an issue with the turbo.

You can test the FCV by disconnecting the CAC hose that goes to the intake manifold and then watch the throttle while the engine is turned off. If the valve shuts, then it is functioning correctly and you will need to look elsewhere for the issue. Feel free to call us when you are diagnosing the vehicle.

The flap on the FCV is spring loaded open so when the gears strip it stays open. (good) An indicatation of it having failed is for it to shutter when shut down.

well I haven't noticed any shutter, is it apparent when it shudders or do you have to be listining for it?

the code pulled was P0401. I guess I'll take off the CAC hose and check the FCV, to do this I pull the CAC, start engine, have someone shut it of while watching the valve?
Thanks for the info! If I can get this fixed, I plan on driving up to you and having the tune done!

Well The FCV is working fine (thanks GDE), no holes in the CAC hoses so screw it.. Who needs an EGR. I think I'll just head up to GDE and put the tune on it and kill the egr cel once and for all!. Thanks to all that helped.
