Had a strange thing occur this morning. Something like limp mode, except that instead of low power from the engine, the tranny wouldn't shift at normal shift points. Shifted around 3 grand for each up shift. and down shift took longer than normal. I've had this happen when it was cold before, but this continued even after it had 20 minutes to warm up. Wasn't that cold to begin with, 60f this morning and the tractor spent the night in the garage.

Anyway, I pulled over after about 20 minutes, shut down and restarted and all was fine. Could be the TCM or could be the ECM, but pretty sure this was a software error.

Anyone else have this happen?

I had that happen recently as well, and I did get a P0093 even more recently. Maybe I had better change the fuel head?

That is a limp mode. Somehow our CRDs can sometimes throw a limp without tripping a CEL. The lightless limp is most often caused by a P0093 air in fuel code. Just shutting the engine off and restarting will reset it. When was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

The first time was at 26K Aug 08, I now have 11K on the fuel filter, 1/2 the mileage the 1st one had, I did find air in my fuel head. I pumped it up and bled it, new I can pump it solid so hard it cant pump no more, maybe it was just air? Will have to wait and see.

I don't think it was air in the fuel head. I haven't had that problem since I swapped out the stock fuel head with a Racor. The current filter was swapped out about 3000 miles ago.

I drove this way for about 15 miles until I realized that the tranny seemed to behind a shift both going up and down. Like it didn't down shift when I stopped at the last light and wouldn't upshift until the RPM's were up around 3 grand

Yeah, air in head. If you don't have a lift pump, you can still get that code from a slightly plugged filter. I have had a filter become plugged enough in three thousand miles to cause the limp. It only takes a tiny amount of vacuum differential across the filter to cause air to leave solution and create an air bubble large enough to get a P0093. It can especially happen this time of year as the stations are getting winter blend fuel in, and the weather is still warm. A lift pump can completely solve this issue forever. It could possibly be something else, but I would lay my money on air.
You need to find out what codes, if any, are being thrown.

If you get it up to 3kRPM then let off of the accelerator, it will shift up.
