Finally got my lift installed on the CRD. Makes a great daily driver and work truck. Nothing too extreme but still quite capable. It's been raining here for 3 days, so the pictures are a little dark.






Do you all think I should get rocker protection, or if I can live without by being careful, will my Jeep look better as-is

I just thought of something alljeep. You should read this topic discussion that we had back in December. Might be a potential source for rocker protection for you. It's not right next door, but you're a lot closer than me.

Noob question but why would I pay much more $$ for the other lifts when I can pay $171 for this one?

#1 it is only a spacer lift (i run one too so i am not bashing) so you don't get any more flex

#2 it is less lift then the Daystar 2.5 for $249...

I run Rusty's spacer which has some bad and some good reviews...I paid $170 shipped. The kit doesn't include new shocks (most spacers don't) and it isn't a proven name. This doesn't mean it's a bad kit-to the contrary, it uses daystar hardware and is small so you shouldn't have strut problems or CB bind.

So if I understand some of these threads correctly, some people are looking for more flex versus height? or is it a smoother ride? Since I have a CRD is it my understanding the front end is lil heavier and the Daystar is my only option right now. I believe I heard that or that I have to get a "puck" lift ???

Either way, buying bars is way cheaper that fixing just one dented rocker.

03 Freedom with some neat stuff done to it that I learned about here.

It's mine. We have to use our own vehicles for work, but I get paid mileage (currently $0.445/mile) for fuel, wear and tear. So it truely is my work and play full time vehicle. Any rock sliders that I get I want to keep forever. I like the AJ SuperRails, but they are not in production yet...

The CRD sits quite a bit higer stock than the gas versions. The Daystar 2.5 kit will put the front end on a CRD WAY above the cv angles the gas versions see, and therefore way into the danger zone of lifts greater than 2.5" destroying the CVs. I measured a true 2.0" of lift front and back from my CRD stock conditions.

The factory CRD front springs are very stiff and experience zero sag after inserting the so called 1.5" Daystar front spacers. I got 2.0"

I don't know why you would pay more, but with the gas version KJ I would suggest also adding the 3/8" over the top strut steel plate/spacer available in the 2.125" Combo Lift by Rocky Road because I think your front end might end up lower than mine without it.

Pete at Trucks in Action is great. It's a real professional shop and they have done many Libbys already. My install was $290 including the laser alignment - and my engine bay had a lot of extra crap being a CRD that needed removed to get to the strut bolts.

Trucks in Action is located on Gasoline Alley near the Indianapolis 500 Raceway and there are many, many truck and race shops here with a long history of performance and off road modification.

As for spacer vs. spring lift. I did not want more flex. My large tires will already barely rub the inner wheel wells. Why pay for more flex just to press the tires harder into the same place?

For the CRD, a spacer lift is the only base option available. The Rocky Road Combo lift I believe, uses the Daystar spacers front and rear in addition to their own top of the strut steel plate spacer and is advertised as a 2.125" lift kit. This kit MIGHT leave the KJ perfectly level or slightly higher in the front.

Daystar has their own packages, one of which is the full kit with the spacers front and rear, and their own, and much thicker, strut top relocation bracket. With this kit, the CRD will sit at least 0.75" higher in the front than the back if not an entire inch due to the heavy duty springs already in our CRDs from the factory as compared to stock gas versions.

Daystar also has the kit that I, and LibertyCRD have used, that is advertised as a 2.5" rear spacers and 1.5" front spacers, however the overall lift is 2.0" in the rear and 1.75"-2.0" in the front depending on how the KJ settles, but in this range for sure. The reason for only 2.0 inches in the rear, is you have to remove a factory lower coil pad that is already 0.5" thick before you can install the Daystar rear spacers. My front sits barely lower than the rear. But with a full tank of fuel and some cargo, it sits perfectly level.

As far as "pucks", that is just another name for the spacers - at least the rears anyway.

My ride is every bit as smooth as before the lift install because I have retained my factory struts and shocks. My rear axle will not travel as far down as a spring lift would, but I'm fine with this fact. I was not comfortable throwing away perfectly good front and rear springs, struts, and shocks. Maybe when everything wears out in 80k miles or so, I'll look at more options if any are available.

As for spring lifts, do a search on this site and you will get a ton of information - but for now - spacer type lifts are it for the CRD.

You won't be disappointed. My 4x4 shop installed extended bumpstops for me in the rear for free. It works out perfect because on uptravel motion the tire has about a quarter inch of clearence before rubbing on the inner wheel well. In the future I will upgrade my shocks to allow for more downward travel, but the upward limitation is perfect.

In the last photo, my rear is sitting a bit higher since the jeep is empty of fuel and cargo. When loaded up, the back squats right down to level.
