This weekend the deed will happen. Batteries charged for the camera. . I'll spend the rest of the week looking for BJ press, 39mm deep socket for axle nut, spindle puller(rented). Already went to Harbor Freight for set of metric deep impact sockets, impact extensions and impact universals, all in 1/2 inch drive (purchase on sale). Anything else you can think of? I know all of you will be with me in spirit! :D

are you installing new lower ball joints as well?

You're right. 36mm is what I have in my notes. Dyslexia, I guess. Moog serviceable BJ's

spindle/knuckle puller (wrong name?) for removing the CV axle as in http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=3317

Even the LBJ's? What do you use to R&R? UBJ and tie rod ends I don't need any tools I understand. How about the axle from the knuckle?

LBJs yes but nothing else except take your time and if that doesn't work BFH!!!!!!!
On the CVs I take the spindle loose and then start pulling it out slowly after it is pulled out some just tap light with a hammer and every one I have done slid out easily. You DO NOT want to pund on it with it seated of course

I assume the front wheel bearings and the locking hubs are that all in one, sealed for life, expensive as he**, can't fix it assembly? Nothing to take care of since the thing is totally disassembled? Thanks again, tommudd!

Autozone rents these tools for free. You just charge it on your card and when you take them back, they credit your card account. So I thought I would take advantage.

I always rent the presses and pullers when I need them. Its free and I personally dont like hitting the cv with a hammer. Its all personal preference though.

Moog K80767's are installed. A ball joint press with a shorter bolt would have made life much easier. the arm on the knuckle that receives the UBJ got in the way of getting a straight shot. A custom plate and some persuasion with a slightly BFH got them in. 1st one, hour and fifteen minutes, 2nd one, twenty five minutes.

Shocks and springs are assembled. RRO trim packers fit perfectly. UCA pockets are being cut and ground, primed and painted.

Tom, my CV axle nut was a 36mm (measured35.7mm across the flats)

I used your technique of smacking the axle with a rubber mallet and the steering knuckle came sliding off. I did borrow a "pitman arm puller" which popped the UBJ, LBJ and tierod end with no effort. I am left handed which I have broken twice and doesn't like to swing a hammer anymore.

The set up for the driver side rear UCA bolt was 18 1/2 inches from the socket end to the extension end with no universal joint. 1/2 inch drive ratchet with a 20 inch cheater pipe. (made it easier to turn while laying on the fender holding the socket on the nut.)

I'm a havin fun now!

They do bolt right in, just the drivers side rear one is a little bit of a pain takes about ten minutes longer on that side is all

Sorry, KJ in CO. I didn't mean to scare you. I'm doing everything at one time, lift, lower ball joints, upper control arms. I'm working by myself and I'm also physically taxed so things aren't as easy as they use to be. I have to rest quite a lot. The right front is all done. The left front is 60 per cent done.

Love to see how they turn out in the long run, pretty sure I'm going to have to do somethin before the long run comes into effect on this one tho
