I have a 02 Rennegade and the door locks lock automatically at about 15 mph . I find this very annoying when getting out then trying to open another door. My local dealer said it couldn't be done. but then wanted to charge me $35 scanner fee to see if they could . But recommended against it as they felt it is a safety issue incase of a rollover. YEAH RIGHT. Does anyone know if they can be turned off. :?: I have searched a big portion of this sight and have not seen any info on this topic.

Yes, the dealer can turn it off, they are just being stupid. The EVIC can also be used to turn them off.

As Jeepjeepster said, if you have the EVIC, you can turn off the feature but also program it to UNLOCK all doors when you open the driver's door. Mine is set to lock automatically and open all when I get out. Very convenient.

It is the Electronic Vehicle Info Center, mounted above the rear view mirror between the visors, if you have it.

I can't find anything in the manual. most I can find is the mention of the auto locks on page 20.

In the EVIC you just go into the options menu by hitting the far right button and keep hitting it until it asks you a question similar to something about door locks.

I hope I am understanding it right that you are having trouble with programming the car from the EVIC.

I heard that there is special combinations with the remote that can change things like that if you don't have the EVIC, but I don't know what they are.

My '03 system was set to exactly how I wanted it... auto locks, horn beep w/keyless entry - or not. It took the tech just a couple of minutes.

Went and talked to a different dealer today about this and found that on mine the dealer has to hook up there computer to change door lock options the $35 hook up fee still applies. found that the earlier ones were not hooked to the EVIC.
