The wife had been somewhat interested in the new 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limiteds. The CRD had been paid off since October 2008 (thanks to accelerated payments and 0.00% for 48 months) so we were in a great equity position. The state of KY is currently offering a sales tax credit, which was never in place unless you were trading used-to-used, so that made a big difference also. The $4000 rebate, $500 Loyalty rebate, Supplier pricing, and tax credit made it too good of a deal to pass up.

Did a search on Auto Trader and found a Light Graystone Pearlcoat that she could not resist.....it's a Limited w/5.7L V8, 18x7.5 alloys w/RWL Forteras, Chrome Edition Group by MOPAR, and Class IV Trailer Tow Group.

It is extremely well equipped; the MyGIG Boston Acoustics Audio system is sweeeeet. The HDD can store around 4,250 4 min long songs. I played around with it and loaded 4 CD's in a short time. My 8 year old daughter can watch DVD's as well......we sat in the garage the other night and watched a few minutes of Tom & Jerry just to become acquainted with it.

The 5.7L Hemi has a nice V8 rumble to it also......

I still plan to check in from time to time, but I'll be in the GC Forums a little more I suspect.

Greg

Sorry to see you go man. I've had my eye on replacing my wife's Volvo with a GC CRD if I can find one I want when the time comes. I'd love to have one of those.

Wanna post the dealer you traded to, so if anyone here is looking to pick up a well-maintained KJ CRD, they know where to go?

The HEMI has more torque then the CRD does by a long shot.

357 hp / 389 lb-ft still ain't too bad.

The ol' CRD sure did love to chew up a nearby 2.5 mile long 6% grade though. Seems like there was a mercury tilt switch that would activate a mystery power box on that little thing on hills.....I swear at times it felt like it pulled harder up some grades than it did on level ground.

she won't miss the CRD until she fills up the hemi...then she miss the MPG that the small diesel gets..
sish..don't tell here that larger truck diesel can get the same mpg..

gas truck..nope..I made my bother-in law jealous over xmas because his newer ford(gas), gets 18 MPG at is best..this because sucks I get almost that towing 7k..and better when not towing. I got 21.5mpg hauling 1200lbs thru the NC mountains this summer..thats hand calc, not the overhead.

sorry to see you go..fair travels

Already been there / done that ! :banghead:

1st tank hand*calculated was 17.8 mpg.....with a larger percentage miles being of interstate travels. Oddly enough, the GC only has a 21.1 gal tank....not much larger than the CRD's.

Let's not forget.....I was as enthusiastic with the CRD at trade in time as I was at original purchase time......it's just that after 55 months, she wanted a change. Interior features on the GC are sweeeeet.....

I still have some diesel in my blood.....I'm on my 4th Dodge/Cummins pickup.

Glad I don't own a HEMI MegaCab....... :SOMBRERO:

Good luck with your new ride.

We did almsot the same thing here except we are keeping our Liberty CRD and added a GC CRD Limited Edition. The difference in comfort, noise, ride, and power are astounding. GC CRD acceleration is similar to a Boeing 777 on take-off roll :-) MPG in the CRD is a little low between 21mpg mixed driving and 23mpg on highway but it still needs many more miles to fully break in.

Similar experience. I talked my wife into a GC diesel. But I couldn't let go of my red tractor so now we are a two diesel Jeep family.

gsbrockman, take a look at [url]http://mofv.com/mygig/[url] for help in getting that MyGig up and running. It seemed to take a lot of babysitting to get it almost where I want it.

Without hope of result, I took the opportunity to berate the engineer responsible in front of his director. In the end I concluded, "All I want is iTunes embedded in the dashboard. There's a dial there, but we only use it for volume. iPods and Sansas have figured out how to do a user interface..."

MyGig could be a great unit, only software is holding it back. From my OEM perspective, developing hardware, software should be the easy thing to get right, once it's paid for, it's free, quite unlike high voltage hybrid transmissions.

Or high-amperage serial power generator hybrids, right Dan?

Any word from behind the curtain, are they still going to market with an electric Jeep, or has that project entered the eternal "on the market in 2 years" purgatory like the Volt or the Volvo diesel hybrid C70?

From a recent press release...

Quote:
As part of its five-year plan, Chrysler Group currently is developing a Ram 1500 with traditional hybrid capability for 2010. The company also continues its plan with the U.S. Department of Energy to build a small test fleet of plug-in hybrid Ram 1500 pickup trucks and minivans. Because pure electric vehicles lend themselves to commercial applications, Chrysler Group is considering a small electric delivery van application for 2011-2012 with an appropriate business case.

The company has a significant amount of resources allocated toward vehicle electrification and affirms a commitment by continuing to add talent in this leading-edge technology arena.

The first line means 'no' to your question. The second line means all the new hires will make more money than me.

Chrysler is developing a hybrid Ram Truck that uses the tandem powertrain so both motors connect to the tires?

Why do I suddenly make the comparison of an udder on a bull...

Considering that my 05 CRD is shorter and narrower than my 97 Grand Cherokee... And has half the cylinders in the engine bay... Yet manages to have a full 800 lbs on that GC, and SO much wasted potential on the economy b/c of poor gearing choices...

I wonder how badly they will screw this up so that it still performs like the overbearing truck designs have been (where they actually are designing them with drag racing power gearing)... Yet they can call it a 'hybrid' like GM has a 'hybrid' Escalade.

GM's hybrid system added a whopping 1mpg to the escalade. A brick under the pedal would have done as much.

As a reminder, my personal money was spent on diesels. Hybrids are just what I do, not what I want...

Not blaming you at all Dan, I know you would fight the good fight... If anybody would pull their head out of their arse and listen to what the PEOPLE want.

Some of the problem with these hybrids isn't that they are bad tech per se... But that the manufacturer listened to morons in a focus group. "How will I know it's ready to drive after I turn the key, if I can't hear the engine running?"

That one is a true quote from Ford... Which is partly why the Escape and Mariner will NOT move unless the gas engine is started... And said engine MUST run (programmed) for a minimum of 10 full minutes before the computer will even THINK about swapping to battery power. But anything more than drift-acceleration (think 5% or so pedal input) causes it to re-start the gas engine.

Genius, sheer genius. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :furious: :furious: :furious: So much potential... Flushed.
