Yes, Shutting down and restarting restores power and the issue is cleared.
This has been happening only recently and after I had the TC & Pump replaced with the new Updated DC TC & Pump.
I've experienced a real limp mode event the first year I owned my CRD. Never happened again after I got the ECU updated by DC. This psuedo limp mode is nothing like what I experience back then. Its like driving without the aid of the turbo and having all the tranny shift points set to 4000 rpm. I thought it might be Tranny, or boost issues. but I'm convinced its an injector going bad.
I've had these psuedo limp mode symptoms since this summer. This has been a progressive problem, happened one a month in July and August, every week in September and October and November, every other day in December.
Here's what I've done so far to troubleshoot and correct:
1. Checked tranny fluid level, it was fine, no issues. Be sure to set the parking brake and check it in Nuetral for a true level. Tranny pump doesn't run in park.
2. Thought it might be fuel delivery issue or a bad tank that clogged the element, Changed fuel filter and was extra dilligent to ensure that all air was purged. Old filter had 10k miles. Did notice a slight improvement in performance, but didn't fix the psuedo limp mode issue.
3. Inspected boost hoses for leaks, no whoosh, checked MAP, very clean.
4. About two months after this started to occur, I finally got a CEL P01202 which is # 2 injector issue. I checked all the connections, both at the injector and the ECU. I hoped that this was the problem. Cleared the CEL and checked it out again.
5. The CEL stayed off for a while, but the psuedo limp continued about every other trip. Continued to live with it, restarting any time it occured to get the power back. 01202 set again about a week later. Clear'd it, reoccured 2 days later which started a pattern of getting the CEL every other day. Crazy thing is that it can run fine for a trip, then the next trip, you go to pass and no acceleration. Never happens immediately on start up, always after I've driven a bit, no difference if the engine is cold or up to operating temps.
6. So I'm replacing the #2 injector, Finished that yesterday, waiting on my ECU back from GDE to program the injector code and update to latest ECO tune. Injector was dirty, but not excessive. After I cleaned it up, looked brand new. I'm not sure if it can be rebuilt, Would love to root cause it, find out the mode of failure. Don't know if this is going to be the fix, but I'm hopeful.
Don't know if that helps, I'll post when I've had a chance to road test for a while and verify I've beaten this gremlin.
