I just bought a HID Kit for my 2006 Jeep Liberty Limited. It's 5000K, 35W. I have never put one in before and I was seeing if anyone had any advise, such as placement of the Ballast, or what parts I will have to remove to install the kit. I have not done any work on my Liberty yet. I previously had a 2000 Chevy Cavalier and replaced the headlights and corner lights but this is nothing like a Cavalier, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I will take pictures when I install it. Thanks.

I just installed a set in a CTS on Friday. Not sure what you got, but there's a lot of trash out there. You're not going to have lots of choices in ballist locations since you're limited by the harness but they should be screwed to metal to aid cooling.

This is in the wrong section, all the "experts" hang out in the other forum.

I'm not going to go into a big rant here, but I strongly suggest that you (and anyone else) looking to put an HID conversion kit into any vehicle reconsider.

You'll get poor performance, blind oncoming drivers and risk large fines.

First, I am going to say that FreedomKJ is absolutely right, the link he posted has great and correct information..
and I don't want to start a fight, "to each his own."

Now with that said, I've had my HIDs since I first bought the Jeep. (about three years)

This is the link from eBay for the ones that I bought..
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/9007-2-Slim-HID-Kit-Lo-HID-Hi-Halogen-6000K-8000K-10K_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem414afb43eeQQitemZ280430855150QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Since our Jeep uses the 9007 bulb, the High and Low filaments are in the same bulb, (unlike other vehicles that use two separate bulbs for HIGH/LOW).
this kits' bulb looks like this
Image

This kit also has a slimmer ballast, which is noticeably smaller. It also has a halogen bulb for use with the brights, it is added mostly to be able to pass inspection if your state requires it. Very easy to install, plug and play, unlike the kits that have HI-xenon and low-Xenon, you want High-halogen and low-xenon, like the one I posted.

Also I had to reverse the wires on the back, because for some reason the low is the halogen, and high is xenon, but that is very simple to do as well.

You also want to get the 6000k rating, that is closer to white, instead of blue, which don't produce sufficient visible light output.

Here are a couple of crappy photos I snapped with my camera phone to show you where I mounted them.
Hopefully you can make them out.

Looking at the photos again, even I can barely see where I mounted the ballasts, lol.
I put them on the two vertical metal supports for the radiator, when you get under the hood hopefully, you'll see what I am talking about.
In the second picture you can see the airbox in the top right corner and intake in the top of the image.

in the image below, it is mounted inside the engine compartment between the headlight and the two silver pipes on the left side.

Good luck.

I looked into the HID's. I could have got a kit for about $120 but I opted for silverstar ultras instead just so i don't have to worry about the law. I've heard you need to aim the lights and what not and didn't feel like getting involved with that. The silverstars are a large improvement over the stock lamps.

Have you noticed an increase in oncoming traffic, "flashing" you?

Would you say the cut off point is above, equal to or below oncoming drivers eyes?

I'd really like them but definitely don't want to blind anyone.

So, Putting HID bulbs into a halogen housing is illegal.
There is no "cutoff" for HIDs in halogen housing. It does not work the same as projector headlights.
To attempt to use them in the Liberty's headlights, you must aim your headlight very far down to the ground, and then you still get glare.

With all that said, I use HIDs.
Here in NYC people haven't flashed me (at least not the way I want them to  )
Every state/city/town is different. Some cops will pull you over if they suspect you have them. Here, they don't care. Use at your own risk, and the risk of the other drivers on the road.

Enjoy! 8)

:furious: Im going to start out by saying that website seems to me like a bunch of BS. Secondly the United States has no laws against HID conversions the video that is shown in that website is for Great Britain and YES if you do an HID Conversion in GB you will be fined and ticketed without Projector lenses. That being said you do need to re-angle you lights after an HID Conversion, personally I have a Bi-Xenon kit with the stepper motor that physically moves the bulb when changing to "Hi-Beams". I have passed the Literal Pain In The A*S NJ Inspection with the HID Kit installed. Things to be sure of when doing an installation of an HID lighting kit is Beam Angle after installation and not to get an obnoxious color temperature, I have a 6000K Kit Installed in my KJ I would recommend it also other "Good" color choices are 4300K and 8000K although 8000K is more of an exotic look and it doesn't produce as good of a usable light source and is more likely to piss people off, I have had an HID kit in every vehicle i have ever owned and cannot stand driving anything with conventional lighting. If you have any questions about this please feel free to contact me.

*Edit* not trying to bash FreedomKJ here but even the site he quoted supports this here is the link http://www.danielsternlighting.com/nhtsa/NHTSA.html pay particular attention to the 2nd to last paragraph

Actually if they kit does not have a DOT # stamped on it they are illegal and why all retro kits without projector housings are sold as "for offroad use only".HID high beams are illegal period,no vehicle sold in the US has HID high beams.

My 2009 BMW 335i has OEM Headlights that turn and move the shutter up for the high beams. So wouldn't that be considered HID High Beams? Im just saying NJ has some pretty crappy inspection laws and my kit was definitely the 85$ ebay Bi-Xenon Kit im pretty sure its not a DOT Approved kit and I passed inspection, although the guy did roll the headlight analyzer over and I though I was going to fail but to my surprise it was in spec. Also I aimed them my self with a tape measure and garage door to project on....
