I got a chance to replace the passenger-side mount today (with the heat shield). I had to do a lot of trial and error to figure out how to get the engine lifted up enough to clear the mounts and not so far as to crush anything in the engine bay or around the transmission. That was sort of scary (even with the fan shroud moved).
What I learned:
- Both the top and the bottom mounting nuts are 18mm, but the top requires a deep socket. I happened to have a set that went from 16 to 19.... so 19 worked in a pinch, just had a little slop and I had to be careful.
- Loosening both sides makes the clearance go up slower. Just barely loosen the driver's side and as you lift the engine, it'll hold down that side and the centerline of the tranny will act as a pivot
- Popping the air box assembly out gives you excellent access for the passenger side. The drivers side required that I slip off the output of the cold side intercooler hose to get a shallow enough angle to break the nut without the exact right socket. The underside of the passenger side is an arm's reach away as long as the exhaust is cool and I STILL have no idea how to get any leverage on the driver's side. I think you might have to disconnect the differential carriage assembly from the main engine crossmember assembly
- Getting the old mount out is not too bad, but putting the new one in was a chore. There wasn't quite enough clearance for it to just slide in, so I got the top bolt up into the engine bracket and nutted it a few threads then tapped the bottom of the engine mount until the bottom shafts lined up with the frame's holes (thank you 18" ratchet extension for letting me tap on you).
After all was said and done (and I rotated the tires, drained my provent, and mounted a new skid plate), the jeep was rattle-free and seemed a bit smoother. I could swear my fuel economy went up by a couple tenths (less vibrating...

)
Thanks to Durangotang for suggesting the mounts to me. $35 bucks and an afternoon wrenching and I saved my self a long trip to a dealer, some moolah, and probably got a more careful and accurate repair (albeit slower).
