The two flag Jeeps were painted by the guys in lowbake AFAIK. Lowbake is the body and paint repair area. I was told that a few guys did it as a "special assignment". Since the cars were scrapped I'm assuming that they were junk (at least in Chrysler's eyes) to begin with. I was in lowbake the other day, and saw the hoods hanging on the wall. That's all that's left of them.

there might be other flag Jeeps out there, but I can guarantee you the paint job is not factory. It is impossible for the robots in paint to do that. There were only two, hand painted off the line. With the exception of the hoods, they are both gone.

My job now on the JK involves starting the vehicle. That's right, I'm the first person to twist the key on your new JK.

Well, one of three people on my shift.

I'd like to say that we build plenty of diesel, manual trannys, but they are all for export. I'll have to pay attention tonight.

Personally I'd like to see them all be diesels. I have less work to do on them compared to the gas engines. :goink:

There has been talk here that if you take the engine out of it and import them separately, you can have a JK or KJ diesel in the States....

Dunno if that's true.

I would even pay "new car price" to own one. (I only every purchased one car new... my 1999 Integra Type R... I paid thru the nose for it... but it was worth it

)

So far it's only a rumor. Chrysler has no immediate plans for a North American Diesel Wrangler according to the CEO and spokesman for the Jeep division.

We think alike! My wife gets all upset when I talk about buying a new vehicle even though I would only do it for one Jeep. A JK rubi diesel. Too bad that I am not planning on not purchasing a new jeep for about 3-4 years. I hope by then there will be a diesel version here that I can actually order instead of buying someone else' regret/problems.

I might be a POM living in the states, but I still like to drive my cars.. for some reason the American consumer has more important things to do than actually drive their cars... I can't think of any better excuse for there not being a Manual Transmission offered in FIAslyers biggest market... in all their vehicles.

At least I can enjoy knowing that if I kill my battery in my libby that a simple rolling hill start and a pop of the clutch will get me home....

Sorry. It irks me that a vehicle meant to be driven isn't available with all the gear needed to drive the darn thing.

Not outrageous.

There are also some £500 cherokee diesels with manual.

I have family in the UK who could potentially purchase the vehicle (heck, I'm even blessed with a great uncle who is a mechanic who could look it over for me... )

My questions:
1) Would I have to remove the engine? (and ship it separately?)
2) Would an imported vehicle be able to be titled here in the states?
a) I have a million miles on my libby... if I did get the diesel import it would mainly be my trail rig, but I would want to be able to drive it when I please without worrying about mileage/restrictions.
3) Would I need a broker?
4) Why is Michael Manley such a weenie when FOREIGN COUNTRIES get the vehicles I WANT, but they are an AMERICAN ICON?!?!?!
5) Does it help that I am a British citizen? I have plenty of family over there, although I haven't had residency there for most of my life, I could in theorie purchase said vehicle, get it MOT'd and have my family drive it for enough time to maybe utilize some kind of law which lets me bring my vehicle to the states?

I have spent a fair amount of time and money setting up a cost effective way to do business with oversea professionals in the auto and salvage industry. Lastly, we keep the transaction confidential with each customer. We do provide some support to help individuals in each state know who to license their vehicle legally. And just to clarify, I do this as a hobby. Because I have invested time and a few thousand into this hobby, I do make a small amount of money in order to save the customer a few thousand dollars

I can't say that it's only Jeep, although they are the only US car manufacturer that I know who does this (I am sure they all do... )

Ford Makes some stupid awesome rally cars, including a 4wd focus with a cosworth turbo engine for Europe...
VW has a new sirrocco/corrado which I haven't heard of being offered in the US.
The Honda (Acura) Type R back in the late 90's/early 2000's had a better engine in japan, and a styling front clip...
Subaru was selling the WRX as a turbo Impreza for at least one body style before we got a watered down version here in the states....
Back to Ford... even the old escorts in europe came with an awesome turbo engine...

Those are a couple of examples off the top of my head...

Can anyone confirm where the European Jeeps are made?

Diesel, I might take you up on that offer... but I want to see what happenes in the US market first... I am not too keen on "building my own" diesel... especially if AEV is potentially making them... with Dana 60's... but rear leaf springs? (I'm talking about the J8)
