First question from the new guy...

I need ideas on where to mount an XM receiver.

Image

any place I try is either out of reach/view, or blocks the reach/view of something else...

thoughts?

Well it is close in park. Using the buttons to the left is akward in park. Still there is enough room to use most of my presets and remove it from the dock to go inside when in park if I want. I don't mind it so much since I'm drivinf most of the time. Best part of the kit I got was it has a wired in power supply so I can use the front outlet for my cell. Mine is place so I can still use the transfer case lever and the power outlet.

Also a good location. I had it there in my outback. Only downsides were it was visible to steal and I had to remove it cus the inspection sticker went in that bottom corner of the glass

I don't really want it on the window, because once I mount it, I will rarely take it out. In the window I thin the sun would cook it...

I like the low spot down there in your picture. The little tray down there isn't good for anything that I can think of, so blocking it isn't a big deal.

Does anybody use that tray for anything?

thanks to Mikey for the idea...

fits like a glove...

the mounting hardware comes with some little "hooks" that you can use to mount it to the air vents of all things...the longer hooks were just long enough to grab in the gap between the moldings...

Now that is nice.... You didn't even have to dill any holes.... not bad. Mine is screwed in to the top of that useless little tray and and I have a hole in it where the wires go back behind it.
So how are you liking that little spot?

is that pistol in a holster mounted next to the e-brake of just placed there? I could do that ith my Tarus 9mm when my permit comes

My Sirius radio is mounted at the bottom center of the windshield. I'm happy with its location as it doesn't block my view at all but is still right there easy to see.

I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Use the vent mount. It's sturdier than it appears and it's right there in reach and doesn't block anything but a vent. You've got plenty more of those  It's really easy to run the wires up through the dashboard from there as well, so you get a nice clean looking install. I'll take some pics of my Sirius receiver if you want to see how it looks. Let me know.

The pistol is just sitting there.

I usually carry "small of back" or "strong side", and some times that can get uncomfortable while driving. So some times it will sit there, and other times it may be in the door "pocket". I like the way it fits in the door pocket, I just clip the holster there. But being right handed, it feels awkward to get to it.

I have a couple of different holsters on order, one of which is a paddle holster that will be mounted near the drivers/my right knee...

It is a factory head unit. The RB1 model. It came with my Jeep. It has Nav, and a 6 Disc changer in the back. There is only one thing about it I don't like, the NAV DVD has to stay in the player up front. so if you want to play a disc that someone birngs or one you just bought the nav disc has to be ejected and then you can't use the NAV feature. Minor I know but it bugs me once in a while. right now I can't use the Nav because my Easton Corbin CD is in there.

here is a pic of it in NAV mode
Image

this is what it looks like in plain old FM... it does have RDS so some fm station do put out song titles and things that show up.
Image

The head unit I have could have a sirius tuner module hooked up to it but that was not included with mine and to buy it with all the parts from the stealer (tuner, antenna, wiring, and some thing to make he song titles show on screen) over $600.

here is a used RB1 I found on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-03-07-08-Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep-Navigation-RB1-Radio_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem439dd07489QQitemZ290410493065QQptZCarQ5fAudioQ5fVideo

Back to topic of mounts this is how I had a sirius radio mounted when I first got the Jeep. but I didn't like it as much. I had the driect FM thing with the subau and could not get it out at the dealer when I traded it. I got way too much static and interfearance with out the directFM module so I got the kit I am using now that came with that plus a direct power box so I don't need to use the lighter socket and the mount I have now.
