Quick question:

Is there any adverse effect as to having both SEGR installed then add the GDE tune? Reason I'm asking is while I can not really afford the tune yet, I still can build & install that SEGR device in the meanwhile... I have access to parts and resources, plus my added electronics knowledge (work in high-tech company). Would I be wasting time & money? Since I don't like the CEL being on at all time with the ORM, this option is out..

Thx!

There is no adverse effect, except that you lose one aspect of the GDE tune built-in as a safety valve for an overpressured turbo. Here is a post about it on their forum: http://www.greendieselengineering.com/f ... ist/9.page

They only allow the EGR to open to bleed off excess intake pressure, which means that it would actually flow the EGR in reverse = no soot.

While I am dubious about the EGR's ability to react as fast as GDE claims for that usage, I currently have both installed. They work great together, I haven't seen any adverse reactions by using the SEGR to completely unplug that evil valve.

Just consider also doing an EHM at the same time (or now, since it is dirt-cheap to do) so that you don't scare yourself when you someday go to clean the MAP and find it sopping wet with oil. Without the soot to make oily mud... Oil will continue to coat your intake and potentially collect in your intercooler.

Also have both installed with no adverse affect. Make sure you make good solder joints and the SEGR will last a good long time. My wife gave me hell for a few of mine. Apparently, they we're "milspec"

SEGR is a very complex install. It works perfectly when properly installed, but is no longer needed with a GDE tune.

In this case, I'll only do the EHM with a homemade Provent-style kit, unplug the MAF (though I'll cringe at the sight of the CEL) and get the GDE tune. It sounds as being the most sensible choice for now...

Besides, I'm gonna have to do some serious CAC & intercooler cleaning; I found out this weekend that the engine is actually overfilled with oil (a slight bit over the MAX line) and my CAC and FCV hoses are coated with dripping oil, not to mention the intercooler probably being stuffed with the junk as well... From what I've read so far, looks like there is no easy way to clean it, must be completely removed. Has anyone ever devised a way to actually make it easy to flush this thing? Would a tap at the bottom be a good idea?

BTW, thx for the feedback!

You may have a bunch of oil in the intercooler now, but if you install the EHM and roll for a couple thousand miles it should push the oil through, since the intake air after the EHM would be "clean." IMHO, it is not worth it to try to pull and clean the intercooler - too much likelihood of damage or trapped moisture. Plus the intercooler is $$$$ if you have to replace it. Just clean up the turbo-to-intercooler hose really well so as not to introduce any new oil into the IC and you should be good to go. Make sure you clean the MAP sensor next oil change.
