I have a 06 with 97K and was wondering if I could (up/downgrade)/make a few bucks/get a lower mileage Mule!

Disclaimer...I have yet to go look at it... I'm thinking hopefully this weekend or early this next week, so I don't have all the details, it looks like it was a light rollover on a 06 CRD Sport with 45K. My question is, what should I be looking for other than the normal structural issues? I have Frmae-up rebuilt Old cars before (1955 F-250, 1978 CJ-7, 1983 CJ-7) So I sorta know what I'm getting into, and nothing looks really crushed and twisted, more along the lines of a couple pcs of door glass, windshield, Fender flares and saving all the sheet metal with a lot of fun and a Body hammer...So,

Anything I need to check for on the Engine/drivetrain?

And whats a reasonable price...

Thanks,
-Scott

Sir Sam,
That is Just Great! Just what I needed to see, it is just about the same shape slightly better as what I am going to look at. This one would only be doing the doors instead of the quarter,.. but hopefully saving the orig Steel. Was that '05 your project? If so, was the rooof skin really streached so much that it was easier to replace?

CRD Joe,
That is just what I was thinking for a longterm thing, after prices drop more, right now I got a few other projects ahead of somthing like that. I think dropping that engine in a CJ-7 would be a blast, but then there is that drivability (long trip)concern... I've taken rebuilt CJ-7s on 300+ mile trips one way and its just tiring, once with out a top.

Its looking like I'll know more and have pics on Thursday evening, Work has me swamped so I can't make it during their hours and My dad in Driving in From Iowa for a Gun Show on Sat.

Yes that is my Jeep, have over 50k miles on it since the rebuild. The roof skin was just over $200. The quarter panel was about $280. For $200 and a days worth of work you can replace the roof skin.

For $50 and 4 days worth of work you can repair it, bondo it, and have it never quite be right.

When we went through the rebuild my dad kept thinking about trying to massage the roof back. After all the work and everything it took I still think it was the right choice, the roof panel looks perfect, and so does the quarter panel. Aside from the mismatching paint theres really no indication that those parts were ever replaced.

I do lots of collision repair - I flip vehicles for a living, trust me when I say its almost always better to replace than repair, you can spend 3-4x the time to fix something as it would take to replace it.

Well, I never had a chance to go look at this, but I think that I'm going a different direction for my next Project.. ie NO Computer controlled engine, and maybe Restore somthing I own already. SO I dunno if anyone on here has seen this one in person, but I thought if a person could get them talked down a grand or get the needed sheet metal with the price, Its a BIG salvage yard, it'd be a good deal.... here's the link, hopefully it'll go to someone on here! Let me know if anyone gets up to see it and their thoughts. So Its fair game for anyone here!
