Spring break, going hiking in the grand canyon. First tank, went to fill up with b20 only t find that station has switched to a different supplier and only sells b2, grrrr. I don't get over there very often because it's on the other side of town, now I guess I don't have any reason to go over there.

First tank- fort Collins co to Santa fe nm, 24.3 mpg. Second tank Santa fe to Williams az, 24.2 mpg. Drove along at 80-90 for the first tank, and had the cruise set at 80 for the second tank. Not too bad, I am running without the Thule, which saves me about 3 MPG. Someday, maybe when diesel gets expensive enough again, I will do a road test at 65 mph and see how much it improves.

So now I am at the south rim of the grand canyon, have Sunday and Monday night at bright angel campground and then Tuesday night at Indian gardens. What an easy hike! All corridor trails, and they sell beer at phantom ranch. I'm gonna lay in the sun all day and eat food and then drink some beer in the evening.

Untill me meet again brothers.
-Sam

Fantastic! Outdoors with a place to buy beer. I'm envious.

It's probably still pretty cold up there, isn't it?

I performed my 50K mile maintenance today--changed the serpentine belt, replaced the "boost pressure solenoid filter," changed fuel filter (spilled b50 all over myself), cleaned and re-oiled the aFe air filter, and cleaned the MAP sensor (for the last time I hope--SEGR/EHM completed last year).

Have a fun and safe excursion!

Holy cow. The CRD turns some serious RPM at 75. I can't imagine driving at 80-90. Poor little diesel must be close to redline.

Huh? My CRD runs around 2300 at 80 MPH! I never drive it that fast, but with the 0.67 5th gear OD it doesnt turn much at all.

Does your overdrive not work?

Yea, You do know that there is a little button on the side of the shifter that makes the transmission change behavior, right?

Sounds like something is seriously off on your trans. I just drove from Lynchburg to Savannah. Filled up at Danville, right to the top of the filler... After driving almost 400 miles, I STILL have just about 1/4 tank left. All of this trip was at 75-80, and the EVIC was claiming 32mpg. If this bears out... Whoooo!

Mine is also at about 2300 at 80 mph. Either your overdrive button is pushed in, or else the previous owner swapped to taller rear gears - like 4.56's or something. . .

Wow. The most I ever got was 26 MPG full stock on a 70 MPH average. This week is was 21 MPG mixed driving with cold weather.

Drive up to 61 MPH so the trans will shift into 5th gear then drop back to 60 MPH and set the cruise. Fold in your mirrors and you'll easily get over 30 MPG. At least I do doing that.

True... But I'd die of boredom (and drifting into a bridge piling) at that speed.

Actual calculations for that tank worked out to 19.2 gallons for 499 miles - 25mpg at 75-80mph. I'll take it, since that is also on winter fuel. Looks like I might have figured out what was holding the engine back... That stupid little Mercedes Logo sensor is the only thing I've replaced recently, but I'm gonna swap out both of the CAC hoses this week, I discovered that I have a complete set from the replacement engine, and they look to be in good condition. Wrapped in silicone tapes, they should last a looooong time, and free is a good price.

Mine was a Chrysler lease...driven by a lady...so I seriously doubt it's had a gear swap. Gears are smooth and change just fine. Hit 5th lockup at 58 MPH. At 75...I'm turning 2,400 RPM and it's humming like a sewing machine. At 85...I'm starting to get worried.

Not to mention it's already been proven that MPG takes a MAJOR hit every 5 MPH past 65 you go. But yea...why am I the only one with a CRD buzzing at high speed? You guys really don't mind driving it that fast?

Did you re-cal the speedo when you swapped to the larger tire size in your sig? This sounds like the issue, otherwise you're going to need a scan tool to verify that you're actually in 5th gear.

No because GPS verified my speedo 1 MPH too fast at highway speed when stock, and 1 MPH too slow with my new tires. Hence, not enough difference to even worry about. I also verified my odometer is accurate too.

2300rpm at 80mph - 245/75/16 ( I10 - San Antonio to El Paso)
no recalibration - but GPS says it's right.

RPM limiter shuts the CRD down at 129mph. I runs just fine at 120 mph at around 3800 rpm for hours on end.

120 mph at 2800 rpm?

Is that field verified or dyno?

25 MPG from Flagstaff AZ to ABQ NM today.

Had a slight tailwind from ABQ to Raton CO, then a STRONG headwind from Walsenburg to Colorado Springs, looks like I will still be able to break 25mpg on this tank though.

All of this is at 80mph in the CRD.

Gotta love the CRD!

Well crap, I25 was closed down so I'm back to colorado springs for now. Between the vicious headwind last night and the 4WD use today my milage dropped just below 25, 24.8 on the last tank. Dangit, really wanted to see another solid above 25 tank.

We were there last weekend for the basketball championships. I think people drive 80 on College.
