What Im I missing here?
Rocky Road Outfitters roof rail:
So far it looks like a very piss poor design or they sent me the wrong rails, or Im stupid (probably this one).
These little oem bolts do not look strong enough to hold this big rail.
Do need to have some sort of oem setup to be able to even install these?
They came with 8 much bigger bolts and nuts but I would have to remove the insides of the KK to get there. If not then they did not send me the black bolt cap thingy's that I see on their website.
Why is there this space inbetween the bracket the roof?

:furious:

I know they have a poor reputation, but there are few options for the KK and I need a roof rack.
If JBA made racks, thats what I would have bought. I did chose them over RRO for my lift because of reputation.

Has anyone here installed RRO's rails?

Are these stock tiny bolts the standard for mounting racks?

subble88, see this thread where both wolverine and I have installed RRO's adventure roof rack. Yes, it is unfortunate that there really isn't really any other option. Boiler, hint, hint.

Yes, those studs on the roof of the KK are standard. Rembember, you're not suspending your KK from the roof rack but rather need the studs to secure the roof rack to the roof. IIRC, Mopar's crossbars are rated at something like 300lbs each (thus total of 600lbs total or 300lbs per longitudinal roof rail such as you're trying to install).

Well, if your RRO Roof Rack was like mine, you're missing any installation instructions. I downloaded the photos off their website and printed them out large to act as my visual reference.

They are and you should use them. Look at all the OEM stuff Mopar sells for the roof of the KK. You should have a hex nut and an acorn nut that you use as a jam nut on top of the hex nut at each stud. You can see this in the photos of my post in the aforementioned thread.

I didn't get anything like this either.

See my aforementioned thread for what I did, including slighting bending some of the base plate ends with a pipe wrench. Plus, they'll squash down as you tighten the hex nuts. Before you do, just make sure you don't need to ream out any of the mounting plates as I did for one to keep the rail base plate from scratching up my paint on the inside of the "channel" the base plates rest in.

Hope this helps.

Mine fit the exact same way. I though maybe I was doing something wrong. I also didn't get any lug caps, I ended cutting the excess bolt off...Nevertheless, I am very plased with them.

they seem to be making the same mistakes over and over.
I did get mine two weeks after placing the order which was a week earlier than their estimate.
I like the rack, but the precision is horrible. Almost like it wasnt designed for the KK but if foced, it will work.
I would order again from RRO only because its the KK's only option.

I put some double sided 3M rubbery tape inbetween the rails and the roof.
I could not get the crap out of the gutter though

Well they are bound to get everything right at some point, your were just one of the lucky ones. I would order from them again.
I gave them a call today and he immediatly emailed me the instructions (although too late) and is sending me the ubolts before Friday.
