Slider Skid?

I was looking at my RL SS sliders,and was wondering if having a skid the length of the sliders between the unibody and sliders would be worth it.
Seems it would greatly increase the uesage of the sliders,rather than having something get caught inbetween the slider frame.

Seems like a good idea,what do you guys think?
Would they be worth their weight?

I think they could be really cool. For my personal Jeep, I plan on doing something like the ones shown in the following thread. I just love the maximum rocker panel clearance & have grown really attached to the look of my jeep with the rock rails removed. I linked page 2 of the thread due to quality of pics there, and copies some of his pictures here as well.

For what 98 % of what/ where 4 wheelers go I don't see the need. I have never gotten hung up on a rock in between the bars of any rials I have had.

As far as the rails Boiler listed,
looks good but useless pretty much. If I would of had ones like those the past weekend I would now be replacing doors etc. I could put my Rock Lizard rails against a rock or a tree and spin my way around whatever it was, without them I would of had damage. Plus they make a great step to reach things on top.

But if looks only is what you are after then OK :wink:

I never had a issue,plus it will just add extra weight that is not needed and will hold mud which will not be fun to wash out.

I'd love a boat slider like that which incorporated some tube extensions (ala RL SSs) to offer the protection of the tubes and also blend nicely with the bodywork and not reduce the side clearance.

Boiler, if you make some, remember to track your costs so you can spec out how much they'd be to sell

More importantly, does anyone still making skids offer them with the step sides? I'm assuming RL is out of the mix at this point.

RRO is still making supersliders, hesitant to even bring them up but it's a possible option

Yea,that'd be me. :mrgreen:

The base part sticking up went between my rails and I ended up rolling the log instead of sliding over it.

Mabe alyoumineum.

I still think someone needs to try some Garolite G-10/FR4 for a skid. Tough stuff, basically a ginormous piece of circuit board material. 70% the weight of aluminum, less than 1/4 the weight of steel, with what appears to be equivalent strength and ease of machining. One thing I think I remember is don't inhale the fumes when cutting / drilling.

I proved that you do not need to buy top plates just go to the kitchen and swipe the cutting board and cut some out,
works great and super cheap! :-)r
