I am considering these guys here...I gave everyone a call so far, the bottom 2 are in best shape, the top one i will most likely offer $1000 since there is a leak and I have to fix it.

The XJ will be trail only as possibly a vehicle to drive on a nice summer day :D

Personally, I'd try to find an unmolested stock one. You have know idea how hard someone wheeled a previously lifted Jeep.

I like 1996-2002 models mostly for the OBD-II. However, those model years also bring the Jeep under the scrutiny of the Illinois Air Team. 1995 and older models don't have to worry about it.

I want to find an unlifted one, just because they are going to be a lot cheaper. But also, I want to pretty much drop the axles so I can paint them and add diff covers and add the new suspension myself. Want this thing to look good, not like a pos like most cherokees do when people use them to wheel...but hopefully. I can find either a green, red or black one. Then the mods on the liberty are done. Probably going to get street tires lol

While red is a nice color, I'd avoid it. I was pulled over in my red van more than all my other vans combined.

Brings attention to the tow vehicle though. If possible keep it street legal and registered, makes test drives around the neighborhood possible and you never know when a back up vehicle can come in handy.

o yea, test driving in the hood would be easy...long grove has 1 cop :D and the field is never checked...but its going to be legal and all.

Jayme, I'm hoping for a cherokee under $1000

Okay... never mind then. The one in SE is for $5K... but it IS black... ;)

lol tempting.see, the guy im talking to wants to off road it one more time when he gets back from school at the cliffs. so i told him i would like to go with him, gives me a chance to see if it is worth it. it is the long arm kit, so thats why its tempting for $1200...and its already rhino lined inside!

Yep - that's the "someone else" in question.

Not to "muck up" the Wrenchfest thread too much (more)...

...Did hear from Marty today. Looks like mine s/b ready in about 3 weeks. The plan is still that, when it's done, Jan will drive my KJ out to CO to get it installed. Right now it looks like he'll be heading out around May 16th. *fingers crossed*

Took some approximate measurements on the new and soon-to-be old tires:

NEW: 9" wide (across the tread); 30" high; 1/2" tread depth

OLD: 8-1/2" wide(across the tread); 29-1/4" high; 1/4" tread depth
