Yea, Ive always been partial to 78-79 Fords. This truck has the 351M 435 4sp with 205 mated. It also came with dual tanks from the factory. But thats about it. it is a Custom.

I tore down to the good stuff, dried mud, rust and grease. I have parted out most of the truck; motor tran and t/c, frame cab and title, are sold.

Sandblasting some rust and junk off, I love sandblasting, it is so refreshing.

Can anyone recommend a good supplier for ring and pinion and lockers?

The last pics are from Sunday's work, this weekend I'll do more work and will post new pics.
I am thinking 5.13 gears with ARB f\r, with 36-37" tires. It will be next week before I order gears and lockers. This weekend I will hope to finish steering box mount and axle location.
I need to figure out coilovers and get that going as well.
If I have time I dont have money, if I have money I dont have time.
If I could only get the Time and Money together at the same time.

Don't need time and money to coincide....

PARTS and time need to coincide!

When you HAVE money, buy parts

When you have time, put together parts!

Ya. Some parts ordered, picking up Dom tubing today or tomorrow in Ft.worth.
The 4.1 rocktrac trade didn't pan out, so I have sent the bearing housing and shaft to TomWoods. Maybe this time next week I'll have the SYE and new rear drive shaft.
I have another project going that takes away from the CRD, I am planning on ridding my dirtbike on the Trans Am Trail western half in late Aygust and September.
The KTM 525 is in pieces as well with the motor torn down for rebuild.
I will put some fresh pics up tonite when I get home.

I didn't want to wait for a axle nut socket to come, in so I made one, Not pretty but it worked better than a screwdriver.

My sixteen year old son busting the ball joints loose, lol, I turned him loose with the ball joint press. No instructions, he had it figured out in a couple of minutes. He started out with the 1/2" impact and ended up using the 3/4" socket.

Waiting on joint ends etc. to come in, anxious to start the link suspension.

I have been doing some body work on the CRD, I found a wrecked 2003 with front end damage. I bought the roof and rear quarter panel along with two doors. Brought all this home and started drilling spot welds.

I cut out the rear quarter panel,

Image

I tried to cut the donor as close with a little over lap as I could. This is fun stuff.

Image

Ive been accumulating suspension parts along the way, I have the DOM tubing for the link susp. I thought it might be easier to do the body work rite now while the suspension is off the Jeep. Shorter working surface. LOL

Image

The other spare time I've been reassembling my bike for the September trip to Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico. Next summer I want to do this same trip in the CRD SFA.

Holy crap man. you are dong some big projects there. I have been trying to figure out how to cut both the rear and front fender wells to make them larger so we can push the rear back more. also trying to come up with a way to relocated the crd gas tank. See if you can figure that one out lol.

We are close on are build, but i cannot wait to see yours done

I agree about cutting out some of the front fender. I think I would rather have the front axle out a little further to help with extreme off cambers, try to get the center of gravity back a little. As for the rear the only thing I know to do is fabricate another fuel cell which would be smaller capacity, i dont like that. The other is put the fuel cell in the cargo area like a nascar, and I dont really like that. So Im looking at chopping some of the front fender off and welding some 16ga metal on a flat plane, to give more room when the tires are turned in full lock.
Another worry I have is; while looking at salvage yards for parts, the 4 libertys I saw were all front collision. They were all buckeled right behind the motor frame, in front of the firewall.
I am now figureing out a way to beef up the thin unibody frame from the link suspension mounts to the motor tray. there is some funky curves to deal with. Not complaining, just thinking out loud.

Last night I started putting boby parts back on the CRD.

Image

Installing the rear Quarter panel requires a lot of patience, removing, trimming, installing, removing, bending, hammering, trimming, installing. It is in now, welded in place.

Image

The roof panel is just laying there, I need to locate some adhesive to glue it in place and the spot weld.

Just curious if any one thinks this might work?

Image

The sensor ring is metal, I can have the Yoke trimmed &turned down so the ring press on.
I could build brakets to hold the sensors in place.
I cant remember where I saw a electronic adjuster for the MPH, since I'll be turning faster.
Has this been tried?

Also, I am going to build a roll cage while I have the interior out. I was thinking a 6 point base starting behind the drivers seat. Maybe going through the roof panel and incorporating a roof rack/ tree rubber. Somewhere I saw pictures of a rollcage someone had built but I cant find it know that I'm looking for it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Noel.

Why still using the junk 242 t-case? Swap that sucker out for a real t-case.

Doubt that setup will work for the speedo unless you mount all 4 sensors to run off that one tone ring, never know though till you try it.
