Hey, was just wondering if there is any driveline differences in a Renegade to any other Libby. I've tried to do research on the internet about this and there is conflicting data, some sites says the renegades are taller, and have different gear ratios, but the only things that I've noticed is fender flares and roof lights.

don't forget the hood - it's flat - the Sport and Limited curve over the headlights

and didn't the Renny come with tranny/transfer case skids?

- I don't think there was any difference in driveline except that you could not order a Renny CRD, those were Sports and Limiteds only.

All is the same, some early 02 Rene's had the Trac Lock rear end, but other than that, just like any other KJ.

These are 'standard' on 2004 Renegades:

Rock rails
Skid plate group and tow hooks
Roof mounted light bar
Roof mounted storage basket
Renegade style seats
235/70R16 all-terrain tires with Renegade style wheels
Riveted fender flares
Deep tinted glass
Limited to black, light khaki, green, or silver paint choices.

...and yes, some of the above could be added to a Sport or are standard on a Limited.

Trac-lock rear diff was a $285 option.
4-wheel anti-lock brakes were a $600 option.
04's don't have a flat hood.

My '05 Renny has the flat hood, came without the overhead lights or roof basket, but has the skid plates & tow hooks, had P-225/75R16 M&S Goodyears, tinted glass, riveted fender flares, and the color is called "Dark Khaki" which is a dark green/gray.

The plates & stuff were part of an additional package that was not standard & that would have also included the "all terrain" ( :ROTFL: ) 235/70/16 SR-A's that are actually shorter than the standard 225/75/16's. Shorter than standard is not the way that most people go for "off road" tires. My jeep had this package and the "off road" SR-A's sucked on pavement, let alone off of it.

There were no drivetrain differences or gear differences or anything like that. Your engine/tranny combo dictated your gear ratio regardless of the appearance package you chose. The "rock rails" were closer to "step rails" when compared to legitimate ones. They and most every other renny-specific item are appearance-only. The '05-up flat-hood versions shared the hood/grille/rad. support with at least the Rocky Mtn edition and were not renny-specific as so many claim. The "storage basket" died after '04 and was some tupperware-ish panels attached to the standard roof rack. There is debate over '02 Rennies having trac-loc as part of the package. It was an option every other year, same as on the other packages. Trac-loc is in no way, shape, or form a "locker." If you want an honest to goodness drivetrain upgrade, get a 3.7 6spd and it will come with a 241 t-case that is measurably stronger than the standard 231. It doesn't matter if that 6spd is in a Sport or Renny or whatever.

Sport/Renegade/Limited were called appearace packages because that is what they amounted to being. The only legitimate height difference is that the very early '02's sat higher before tipping fears led Jeep to put shorter springs on the KJ mid-year. It had nothing to do with your appearance package, just your build date. The aforementioned tupperware lead the unknowing to believe that the Renny is taller in that, like the roof lights, it adds visual "weight" to the top of the vehicle. It does nothing for ground clearance, the measure that is what "taller" should mean.

If you like the looks of the Renny, find one, If you like the looks of the Sport, find one. If you like the Limited's looks, find one. If you like the Freedom Edition's looks, find one. If you like the Rocky Mtn Edition's looks, find one. Just realize that looks is the key word.

I have a very early '05 Sport. Had a seen the Rocky Mtn Edition before getting my Sport, I may have got one as I think that they are the best looking of all of the packages. The flat-hood Renny is also decent as long as they aren't all gaudied-up.

good run down

it's pretty much just a package, can't really think of anything that wasn't an 'option' in any other model

i think the center bezel that comes on the renny front bumpers was an option still with other models, and I do believe I've seen renny flares on a limited, and as difficult / expensive as the renny flares can be to get, i'd only guess that the guy ordered it like that

and the sports and stuff were sometimes ordered with the lightbar

it isn't like the renny came with a 4.7 or something, chrysler is fairly generic in terms of their package flows, you can see that with the nitro versus liberty kk's, get out a screw driver and a trim tool and start swapping trims and fooling your friends :P

I've been looking for another Libby recently looked at about 6 Renny's last week and none of them had skids.... Only 2 had Rock Rails, They all had tow hooks, Only one had Trac-Loc, 4 had roof lights, 2 Had Bumper lights, Only one had the "Tupperware" Rail covers, They all had the Renny wheels and oddly enough all sported some Craptastic UniRoyal Liberators 235/70/16 They all also had the stock spare SR.A on the Back. Maybe Renny's up North here had the Skids and stuff as an option.

The '05-'06 Renegade "D" package did come with actual sliders, not the big silly tube step things on the previous Renegades (although I think the sliders may have been available on the old Rennies as well). They weren't anywhere near as strong as aftermarket sliders like Rocklizard's or All-J's but they were a lot better than nothing. I got good use out of mine until I upgraded.

The Rennies also had larger Hella foglights mounted on the bumper instead of the small ones mounted in the grill.

Oh, and don't forget the beefy looking, but weak (only rated for 65 lbs I believe) Roof Rails.

Look at my picture a couple post up, it shows the "roof basket" is only rated for 65 lbs. I assumed because it's made of plastic, and nothing to do with the actual "roof rails".

Also, they changed to rock rails (sliders) in 04 instead of the tubular step rails they used the previous years.

I was thinking of the earlier "tube" version, not the later ones. Good info.

If you don't mind my :2cents: I pulled my roof basket off one day (due to the fact that the front parts behind the light bar rubbed grooves in the roof :furious: ) and it has metal bars on the inside of the plastic basket that are mounted to the actual rails with metal brackets but yes it is still only rated at a crappy 65lbs.

I have Thule cross bars and they work great. I remove them in off times for better gas mileage.

my 06 renny did not come with the light bar or skid plates... it did come with the flat hood/grille.. grey front bumper with silver bar on the bottom & holes for fogs to mount on top, large hella fog lights, 'rivit' flairs, rock rails (not the best but i use them a ton), renny wheels, thick roof bars, tow hooks, and of course renegade badging :). but the 6 speed manual is where it's at renny or not!
