I am installing some smd's under my jeep, and am wiring into the courtesy lights.
is it possible to hook up a switch so that I can turn off power to the under car lights so that they do not come on when i throw the stick for all lights inside to come on?

okay.. i ordered my light from ebay and I want to make sure that my wiring will work...
they are smds, so they don't draw much.
light wire connected to switch, then switch connected to courtesy lamps under drivers knee panel.
this case would allow for the under jeep lights to be turned off/on so when i open the door, the courtesy lights will come on and in on the lights under the jeep, but for situation like driving down the road under lights in off switch will not come on, but courtesy still will... correct?

if i may?

Probably simpler, and at night, more effective (to not have glare inside the vehicle) to wire it from the battery, with an inline fuse, through the driver wiring gromet up into the dash, to a switch, back through the wiring gromet and down the firewall and to the lights

my interior lights cause a glare at night dont yours?

yes, it sounds correct, if you're using a feed from the curt lights as the feed for your smdbs

I am going from pos and neg wired standard to courtesy lights
to courtesy lights somehow to a switch that controls the under jeep lights but the under jeep lights still turn on when the courtesy lights are on. in other words the switch just enables the under jeep lights.

is there only two wires for the courtesy lights. Also check the draw of the lights?

I'm not very clear how you've wired it

however, instead of running power to the switch, you can use it as a ground interrupt

daisy chain the ground wires for the led's with one wire up to the switch, then ground the switch

you can chain the power feed from the courtesy lights down to them without feeding it through the switch, without a ground nothing will draw or work

This will allow you to turn on the LEDs when the curt's have power but have an option of killing their ground so that they will not operate without the switch on

unfort, you won't get a lit rocker switch with this method but it is effective

does this help? I just got done doing rock lights and landing lights on a TJ and did the LED rock lights in this manner

If you're blowing a fuse, make double sure one of the LED's isn't wired backwards

LEDS dont draw much power so they should be blown fuses. Ground would be a cause like Jeepin said. Also make sure if your going to wire all the leds to a switch that its properly ground as well. If it does not work, try integrating the LEDS into the alarm light wire.

correct

basically theres power to the lights whenever the curts come on, since you feed the lights with the curt light feed which i guess come on with parking lights?

by running the ground for the leds to the switch, instead of a power wire, you control the lights via the ground, start at the farthest point, and run your ground wire, tap the led ground wires into that one wire, run that one wire to the switch to the ACC post, then ground the switch to the chassis / body

it will keep your led from coming on with the curt lights unless the led switch is in the on position and the curt lights will function as normal

i'm not sure what you're leds look like

i've seen several that had a threaded neck, with a threaded nut quite similar to center thread switches for the dash and what not

if so, you could make some C or L shaped tabs and use self tapping screws to attach the bracket and drill the hole for the LED to sit through
