As soon as I installed the new ecu I noticed shifting problems. Mainly getting the transmission to downshift. Like when cruising at 60mph I'm at nearly 2000rpms, when I should be around 1600. The only way I can get it to down shift is to floor it for a bit, then abruptly let off the throttle and then it will do the last downshift. It will only stay at the correct rpms until the next time I touch the throttle then same problem all over again. Anyone else experience this problem. Could the GDE ecu's have faulty shift points? Is my TC no good? Only 29000 on the jeep. Pretty big coincidence if it doesn't have something to do with the tune in my opinion.

In order to see 1600 rpm's at 60 you must first get it into 5th lockup and this does not happen untill you reach 64 mph or so. Then you can slow down to 60 and keep it in 5th lockup and see the lower rpm's

Your ECHO tune did not touch the TCM (transmission control module) but since you have more power with less movement of the peddal it shifts different.

Also I think what your discribing is "getting transmission to Upshift". Your CRD has obviously had F37 preformed as most here have been. The original TCM programming shifted to 5th lockup at around 59 mph so your jeep has been "deflowered" :-)r

Finally your ECM has no shift points, they are in the TCM :ALONE:

Now look for threads starting with F37 and you'll see there is much talk about upcoming TCM flashes. We have the shift points we've got because Chrysler fouled up big time on our torque converters and after they sold them to us they neutred our jeeps to make the TC last during the warranty period. So then you'll need to read about Euro TC's vs Suncoast TC's

Thanks for the lesson I didn't know about the tcm. Umm so upgrading my tc with either suncoast or euro will improve the shifting?

Before putting down your $$'s read and reread all TC threads carefully

No, it will improve the robustness of the drivetrain. You will need to have the TCM reprogrammed to improve the shifting.

Suncoast currently offers a TCM flash for $250... others are on their way soon and rumor says they offer more than just a pre-F37 revert.

You should contact GDE first.

GDE TCM Flash is in the works, and should integrate well with the ECU flash performance capabilties. Talk to Keith.

Not trying to stop any upgrade enhancements like tunes, but try this simple fix first.
1) Unplug your ECM
2) Look for any debris that may be obstructing the flow of electricity.
3) Clean the plug(s) on both the ECM and wiring harness.
4) Put on what ever conductive goo or past Chrysler of in this case GDE recommends.
5) Plug the harness plug(s) back into the ECM.
6) I have used this trick countless times when other shops kept hanging on new parts and the cars were towed into my shop.
7) What ever TCM or other tricks you pony up for will work better with all the connections working.

Was there a disclaimer with gde about the tunes and the shift patterns? I may have missed it, but had I known beforehand I prolly wouldn't have got the tune because all the upshifting issues really irritate me. Anyone else have problems keeping the cruise rpms while going downhill? My Libby won't coast downhill anymore it shoots the rpms to about 3k until flat ground before it returns to normal operating rpms since installing the tune.

Maybe you should disconnect the battery then remove your ECM and reinstall it again making sure all pins are seated corrctly
If that fails then definetly contact GDE as what your experiencing with your cruise control is not normal :banghead:

It sounds to me that there is an issue with the TCM being stuck in a sort of limp mode.

Have you checked to see if there are any codes present, even though the light is not on? Your behavior is not normal, and a tune on the KJ should not impact this type of driving maneuvers.

no CEL, and i dont have a code reader so i dont know if its throwing any or not. According to my hood the TCM was reprogrammed (f37) in June of 2006. I just unplugged the battery disconnected the computer at both spots, waited a few minutes, plugged the plugs back in and then hooked up the battery cables. See if that fixes it....i havent driven it since then though. I never had ANY of these issues pre-GDE ECO tune....

Definitely get in contact with Keith, he is a great guy for all the help he offers us here. I have the ECO tune as well as other upgrades, and the tune should not be causing the behavior you are experiencing.

Do you have an engine scanner that you can connect? If not, it might be worth a day trip to Detroit to see if he can help you out with his scanner.

Edit: I just saw where you are in Wa State. Oops, so Detroit is a little further away than from Ohio where I thought you were. Still, call Keith.
