Very interesting thread, it has raised my awareness about operating temp. and am wondering if I've also got an issue...my temp. needle is on the graduation just cooler than the 176 degree graduation shown in the diagram. Do you think I have a thermostat issue here? My commute is pretty mellow, nothing over 50mph, lots of 30-40mph driving with a few stops. The temps have been in the 50's and 60's. Appreciate the feedback.

Kapalczynski, could you also lead me to the info. on how to install the switch that would allow me to run my high beams and fogs at the same time? Thanks a lot.

If your gauge is not one tick to the left of center, then you likely have a bad tstat - this is a problem that will impact your mpg, regardless of your commute and outdoor temps.

When most tstats go bad, they seem to sit around 3/8s on the gauge. What is yours at? Take a picture if you want us to look at it, too.

Thanks a lot. I'll try to get a pic. This is kind of a relief in a way as I'll be more than happy to do something relatively simple that'll improve my mileage. Getting around 21.5 on a pretty slow commute, granted running at 1800 rpms stuck at 40mph is worse than running the same at 50mph I imagine...
