I assume the e-spec models simply can't be ordered within North America right? Or if they can it's at a high cost right?

The dealers will not order the part. If you give them the part number it will not come up in their listings. You need to find an importer from Europe or order directly from a dealer in Europe. Make sure you get the ones for LHD and not RHD as they are different.

On my VW Jetta it had a spot for the rear fogs. It was only on the left tail light, and after researching it, its just a single filament bulb (like a tail light) that you turn on to help people see you in heavy fog. I think it was amber if I remember correctly. IMO, I found it near pointless so I never installed the kit.

It had a spot on the rear driver's side that was ready for a bulb. However, you had to drill out the cutout that the bulb had to go through and you also had to run a wire to the front light switch as well as add a Euro switch that had the rear fog option. It is not amber, but red. It is suppost to be as bright as the brake light, not he tail light.

I added the switch, wire and bulb for under $50. I actually found it useful and wish it would be easier to add one to the KJ. I believe you would have to add the euro tail lamp, add the wire and add the switch which is not as cheap as the VW since the light switch is not stand alone, but part of the salk on the steering wheel shaft cover.

If I were to add a rear fog to the KJ, I would be more inclined to add a lamp housing similar to the ones on the Euro KJ bumper and run it to a separate switch.

So it has spots on both tail lights??
That seems alot more useful. I wouldve added the extra lights in that case too.
The Jetta had a place on both lamps on the back for adding bulbs. Some people do a rear fog on both lamps even though you are only suppose to run one on the driver's side. My 2001 Audi came with a rear fog stock, and it only light up the driver's side.

at a miniumun the rear fog is on the drivers side and is red. Audi's BMW and Mercedes Benz are known for having 2 rear fog lights. Volvo is another, the current XC60 has both rear fogs. This is why you will see on RHD vehicles the rear fog is one the right hand side of the vehicle. Normally RHD lighting is not compatable with LHD roadways and is something that has to be looked at when importing from Europe, you have to specificaly ask for this when ordering parts. The KJ has 2 rear fogs.

the e-spec wont work! so dont order.... your computer wont recognize it... if you want you can get them and hardwire but its still much easier to just drill... before you drill send me a PM cause i've already done this and there are a few tips i can give you

Why wouldn't it work? The switch is a switch and you would have to hard wire it anyway because the cabeling is not there.

i'm going by what i read on the Nitro forum when a guy converted from US spec to Euro spec lights... there is no built in switch for the lower rear fogs... so technically nothing turns then on... you would have to cut the wire to the original rear fog then run wires to it in parallel with the original brake light... for what its worth... its much cheaper and about just as easy to drill your original (US spec) lights out

Well since I lived in Europe for 13 years, I have done several of these fog light mods on many different US spec cars using OEM parts, I can tell you it can be done correctly with simple car stereo install tools. If you sell a US spec car to a German, it sells alot faster if it has all the conversion parts already installed. Sometimes, dealers will have a repair kit or a retro fit kit for this.
