Why Dodge and Chevy don't make theirs either.
That's an easy one. Too many people remember the 70's era noisy, smelly, difficult-to-start, inefficient diesels that the big three had the nerve to foist on us back then. Bad reputations travel fast and still linger in the minds of many, as we have seen in some of the above posts. So if any of the big three want to market a diesel, it's a lot easier for them to do so if they state that the diesel is made by someone else; Mercedes, VM Motori, Volkswagen, Audi (soon), MTU, Cummins, and the list goes on. Remember, if they want to build a diesel, they have to sell it, and in light of past mistakes as well as anti-diesel attitudes in North America, selling domestic diesels might well be a money-losing option.
