This was taken two summers ago and I just found the picture again. I did have a Yakima Rocket Box on top.

Very Impressive.

I recently packed two adults, two high school boys, luggage, tools, groceries, towels/sheets, fishing poles, tackle boxes and who knows what else to the cottage for a week. Had to use the hitch basket to get it all there?

With my Wife, when the front wheels come off the ground and you can't steer anymore, the car or Jeep is overloaded. At times, I have thought of devising a tag on axle so I can use my equalizer hitch for my 7,000 Lb trailer to keep the front wheels on the ground. :ROTFL: :ROTFL:

Ok, had a big camping trip myself, last weekend.

2 Adults
2 kids (8, 6)

Two large coolers - one dry stores and 1 cold/frozen stores
1 medium cooler - holding 5 dozen eggs
Seabag/Military duffle bag, full of sleeping bags and tent
Large plastic bin (2'x3'x2')
Small propane grill
fishing box and 3 rods
2 collapsible water containers, 5 gallons each, full of water
2-24 packs of bottled water
kids' backpacks
one roll-up 8.5' dingy (inflatable boat) - on roof
3 reusable grocery bags (nylon type) filled with additional stores
20'x45' tarp
+stuff I forgot

Jeep was packed to the doggone gills. Cargo area packed, repacked, repacked to fit as much as possible and was FULL from bottom to top. Dingy was securely tied to roof.

We headed from RI to Lake George in New York (well North of Albany) and went camping on one of the islands. No amenities, and had no idea how far of a trip to resupply, so I basically brought everything.

The bottled waters were in the footwells in the backseat. Dufflebag between the kids.

Drove 485 miles through the Adirondacks with the A/C on and aerodynamics wrecked by the dingy...and still got 27.6 mpg. Best tank average ever!

This is somewhere South Missouri,Northern Arkansas.I've got more stuff than I could list.

I put together the carrier.Used a toolbox for the side of a pickup and bolted it down to carrier and wired in some trailer lights to the toolbox.Diesel Jerry, and 3 icechests. That's one way to maximize.

I like to use the rubbermaid 10 and 18 gallon containers for both inside the jeep and on my hitch rack.
You can fit 3 of these containers side by side across the cargo area behind the seat. You can stack the 10 gallon containers 3 high for a total of 9 or mix and match 18 gallon containers and 10 gallon containers.
ImageImage

These are roughly the size of some common cheap coolers and also work nicely with the 7 gallon square blue water containers you can buy at Walmart.

Still leaves the back window open.

Secure the whole mess with a piece of plywood (which you can use as a table top) or a 2x4 across the top of the three containers and use ratchet straps crossed over the top. They aren't going anywhere in an accident.

These Rubbermaid containers are always on sale for $5-$10 bucks and come in different colors so you can have your kitchen box in blue, your tools in green, the extra parts in red etc.

Hello,

My wife and I do a lot of Dog activities (conformation and hunting). We bought our Liberty in 06' because I lobbied for a vehicle that could "Haul Everything" and still make it down some of the goat paths we travel on for hunting events. She nagged me about not getting a minivan until the first 6"+ snowfall...since then I've been a genius ;). On a typical weekend The load would be the following:

200+ lbs of Dogs
30 lbs of Dog Crates
Grooming table
Force Dryer
1800 watt Generator
10x10 quick up
2 folding camp chairs
2 Laptop Bags
2 Softside weekender Bags for Clothes
1 Gatemouth tool bag for Dog Grooming implements
2-3 Nylon tote bags for Dog Food/Dishes/etc
The Wife and Myself.

To be fair I cheated a little and Slapped the biggest Cargo Box I could find on the Trailer Hitch.

http://www.stowaway2.com/p-20-cargo-box-max.aspx

Still we just came back a couple weeks ago from a mini-vacation to a show in Loveland Co.
With 90% of the load listed above. avg 28mpg for the trip. (1800+ miles)

Could not be more pleased with Jeep, just hope I get another 150,000 miles (I'm closing in on my first 100k)

-Finn

Unfortunately this site doesn't host photos or allow uploads from your computer. You have to either have a website to link to or use a web based service to link to. I use http://www.photobucket.com and it's a free service up to a certain amount of storage space. Once you upload to the website the copy the url for the photo then click on the Img box at the top of your post and paste the url between the [img] blocks.

Guess I'll give this a shot, no pics yet...
So we use the jeep for towing our motorcycle to track events, usually 2 bikes on an open trailer plus a few minor things in a couple of storage boxes (5 gallon fuel jug, minor gear like boots, gloves, mini grill, maybe a suit).
Nothing goes on the roof.
The jeep drives 2 people since everyone else crams into the other cars and I agree to take their belongings, this way I get some peace and quiet while driving. Fold down the rear seats and usually we pack the back top to bottom, left to right to the point I can't see out the rear window. Items include: 2 bikes, toolbox, spare bike rims, canopy, 2-3 tents, 2-3 duffle bags w/personal items (change of clothes, bathroom essentials, etc) and usually 2 coolers, 1 for food 1 for :5SHOTS: , 4-5 pillows/sleeping bags, and other minor stuff like coal, bag of ice, and camping supplies.
Like I said, top to bottom, left to right. We may be going out 1 more time this year, I'll try to snap pics if we go.

Where do you hook the ratchet straps to, those tine anchors in the floor?

I've had a couple trips from Home Depot where I had cargo loaded to the limit on the door sticker of like 1,700 lbs! Mostly bags of concrete and landscaping bricks in the back. You really couldn't notice just driving until you came to stop, launch and acceleration were basically unchanged.

When I moved down to SA 2 1/2 years ago, only brought along what I could cram into the beast - good thing it has side mirrors!!

In a couple weeks, I'll be going back to NC. This time, I've got one of the Stowaway swingarm cargo racks - 53" X 25" - and I'll still be able to open the rear cargo door without removing the spare. Plan on picking up one of the Highland 13 cu ft cargo bags at Advance to pack all the stuff in.

FWIW, if you've got the factory hitch, you'll need an extension with the Stowaway - I've got a 5000 lb Hidden Hitch receiver, where the tube is 3 or 4 inches longer than stock, and the cargo basket just clears the back of the spare by a couple inches. Also, the spare still hits the fixed part of the swingarm at it's present height - I'll be adding a Curt raised hitch adapter - turned upside down to give a 4 inch drop - to get it to clear. This particular adapter is short - 5 1/4 inches long - and still gives you 350 lb tongue weight, P/N 45794.

Another note - I've been told that the 05 owners manual states that the factory roof rails (front to back) are only rated for 75 lbs TOTAL, and advises against placing anything directly on the roof.
