Mine went belly up at 10K miles and they replaced under warranty, but didn't mention a recall. That was last month. Wonder if I got another crappy one or an upgrade? Hmmm... :?:

for me to take off work early to go to the dealer to have them replace a $30 part, its easier/cheaper for me to just do it and get my own part and see which one i put in, not another cheapo one :P

I ordered one for about $28.00 and received two of them. I just need to find out how to install it. Does anyone have a link to a "How to." Also does anyone want my spare?

open your glovebox, there will be two clips, one on each side, push those inward and your glovebox will drop down. its right there with 2 hex head screws holding it in. you have to wrestle with it to get it unplugged, but it just takes time. make sure you unclip the RED clip before you try to unplug it. for the bottom screw, you need a little 1/4" socket, cant remember the size. but the upper screw you can use a nut driver

Can I confirm that? The Blower resister is free under a recall? For my 2005 too?
Please share details and how to find the recall. :?: :?:

I did my own replace in 2008 from the dealer parts for $30. but will try the upgraded Sebring part next time. F the recall part. Junk again.
Yes, Jeep co. should give us the better upgrade part for free. Too many of our parts fail in short order. Jeeps need to be built tougher like the new ads say.

Hi,
i have the same problem, by heater blower when set on 1 to 3, cough's out air like an asmatic mouse, set it to 4 and it blows full steam hot air & cold from A/C. My KJ is a 2003 CRD, so would this part be the correct one, part n: Dealer 5174124AA, to use to resolove the problem ( i need to roder it from Jeep UK)?

Hey Joe!
How is that Sebring resistor part doing in your Jeep?
Any notice of problems or burn out?

Hi,
for those how might be instrested, I changed mine today and now I have finally a 4 speed blower again. If the photos look different to what you might be expecting, it's beause my steering wheel sits on the wrong side, my KJ is a UK model.
I have attached some photes and the part number you need for a 2003 model (I have a CRD, but I think this will work for none CRD to) is: 05139719AA. Let see how long it last now.

New and Old part side by side, the IRCTF changed from 236 to 306

Image

Where it's located, but please note my KJ is a UK one so on a US might be in a different place, but gives you an idea of what it looks like and what you should be looking for.

Image

What my old one looked like when it came out!!! that's why it wasn't working...

Image

Now tricky bit... be carefull of the RED clip, it's fiddly to release and the new part doesn't come with a new red clip and if you break it it's not going to be securely fitted and might not work.

Image

The whole pulling out & re fitting took me about 15min max and now it's working

Hope this helps.

Fil.

Thanks for posting those pics Pippo! After seeing how easy it was I changed mine today. I bought the resistor from Autozone for $25 and it comes with a lifetime warranty, so I thought that was a pretty good deal. I also pulled off the plastic panel underneath, which was only 2 screws, and it made it much easier to get to the bottom screw for the resistor.

Easy as almost looking at the pics!!

I replaced mine with the 04 Sebring resistor, the Jeep one is crap

I found it better to remove the lower knee shield I had more room to work.

there are 2 catches to remove the red one and then lift up the black one from the bottom.

total working time 30 min - 10 min to find the 5/16 and the metric for the battery cable removal.

Thank you LOST and Pippobug!

My 1,2,and 3 blower speed went out last week. Blows like a hurricane on #4 though.

Going to Advanced tomorrow to get replacement part.

I LOVE THIS FORUM!!!

Mine just went out too. Actually just number 2.

The BWD RU1040 part is now $50 from Advance online...seriously???

The equivalent Dorman 973-023 is $23.29 at Amazon at the time of this posting.

Put the Dorman 973-023 part in today, works great.

The resistance values between the new and the old (as best I can determine): Original (Valero, Mexico): 0.6, 0.9, X, 3.6 ohms; replacement (Sebring, Dorman, Taiwan): 0.6, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 ohms. The original weighs 36g while the replacement weighs 45g.

Thanks to the above pics and comments, the hardest part was not dropping the bottom screw!

Mine just went out on all but #4 this time. Out $30 in only two years of moderate use. :furious: No more junk, I just bought the Sebring part at NAPA store for $40 (after I whined about the $51 price quoted here in CA.

Well, the ceramic coated wire-wound Dorman 973-023 just failed (speeds 1 and 2). I got 6 years out of the original, but only 3 out of the replacement. So I went back to the "stock" from Advance Auto with their one time "lifetime" replacement, so I should be good for a little bit, anyway. We'll see how long this one lasts!
