Common guys, let's keep this unlocked!

This is not as someone stated a 'mine's bigger then yours' contest.

This is a discussion in which we try to compare the pro's and con's of Gas vs Diesel in a KJ

So I don't care if you have a TDI or a CTD or a whatever. Furthermore, this thread made us come out of the CRD section...Image

Talking about 'us':

Seems like most owners of CRD KJ's are real enthousiasts and 'dig' into the mechanics of our little rig, coming up with mods and whatnot. There are people here who really know what they are talking about. Maybe that is what makes 'us' different.

no, not 'cause you have to be a mechanic to keep it running....(thought I'd say that before someone else doesImage )

I'm sick of the trolls and fight starters on this board. Why does it matter who thinks they have the best vehicle? This is a jeep board where people help each other with problems, got together for lifts and rides, and talk about jeeps. I don't need some a-hole telling me whether I made the right purchase unless I ask for it. The thread was directed negatively at crd drivers and immediately certain members who never have anything useful or productive to say, essentially called crd owners liars and idiots for buying and working on our vehicles. I don't get it. The internet is filled with forums where drivers take vehicles that run fine, and begin modding them for fun. I belong to several and none are as confrontational as this one. Sure, sure I know there are boards that are confrontational and beyond ie pirate, but I think everyone knows that going in. This board used to be different. "Call to arms", see a reference to battle. Why does this board require calling to arms? Why start a fight just to make people mad, too much idle time I guess. Maybe they need a hobby.

Jdorris, I don't find this thread to be in such bad shape. There have been way worse.

This is not Europe: it never will be. That is not right or wrong, it just IS. If the world ever becomes homogenized, I think your point will be very valid: until it does I just don't see the point of discussing European standards or anything else as they are non-issues in the US at this point.

Point taken. Still....

I don't think it would hurt if the US would 'change' a little. Somehow gasoline powered V8's grew into your DNA or something, monstrously big engines using enormous amounts of fuel. (with very little output, but that is a European point of view and therefore maybe not relevant)

Now don't tell me that is just the way it is. And that no one can change that. (No matter where they are)

The KJ CRD was a good start imo.

PS: I know...there are V8's with a 1000bhp. But you don't find those in an everyday Ford now do you...

Look is info , he have done a "Homemade version" I whant to know how he do it , I already got my idea to do one but cant figure a good long lasting filter element to fit in :(

OldSkull,

I devised my own Provent using the following thread published by Squeeto:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=45359&hilit=homemade+provent

Apart from minor differences, it's basically the same approach. Now, I just open the valve at the bottom of the bottle, fill the cup and bottom it up in honor of the CRD! :-)r Actually, I just recycle it with the old engine oil :P

InCommando,

Man, you really don't let go easly! I salute your tenacity but find you to be a tad bit vindictive & confrontational in your approach. As many other have pointed out, we are still talking about a Jeep, right? So, we are all brothers-in-arms, aren't we?

Let's stop fighting and make a logical list.

CRD
Pros: Blows smoke
Good "Fuel" mileage when towing
Good at towing
Power

Cons: Automatic tranny
Timing Belt

Gasser
Pros: Manuals available
Availabilty of fuel at every gas station
Perfect for towing small loads whenever needed, not every day.
Timing chains

Cons: Gas mileage (in certain scenarios, I haven't had a tank below 18.5 yet)

Feel free to add to the list!

It's all yours. That's why I started it.

Also nice to learn what to look for in my newly purchased gasser.

I agree with all the pionts made about the crd..... pros and cons. bottom line for me is I have had mine nearly a year. I like to tinker some I can do some mechanical work but I am in no way a diesel mechanic. I have had no issues yet with mine that required a trip to a stealer or diesel mechanic. I have few mod... Provent and ORM done. I runs great!!!! I do my own oil and filter changes. I would have never bought this Jeep if not for the MPG it can get. so far it has cost me no more... in fact maybe less than the 4 banner gas outback I traded in. If you are happy with your gasser good for you... I'm happy with my diesel

Lets stop this fight and get back to talking Jeeps. Gas or diesel they are all Jeeps
