Ok got my cv joint yesterday and just opened it up. I have two questions did you put the cv grease inbetween the ball bearings, just squirt it in the middle?? and how do you install the clamp on the boot?? Is there a special tool? Can I just use a regular hose clamp instead? I dont see how this wont work it looks like a exact replacement part. Cant believe I almost was going to spend a few hundred for a driveshaft. Thanks to the OP
After putting the front boot on, then the new joint on the shaft, I filled the boot and front of the joint with grease then put the boot on the joint. Then i tried to force the rest of the grease through the ball bearings from the back, then put the back cover on. As for the clamp, put it around the boot and try to latch the two little tabs in the holes that make the clamp tightest. Then just use a pair of side cutters to crush the shoulder and tighten the clamp, you won't cut it, they are made of stainless steel. They do make a special tool but it isn't necessary. A hose clamp should also work but I don't know about any possible vibration issues. If you do go that route only get one that is just big enough, and let us know how it works.
