I bit the bullet and ordered some 2926 (note the second 2 in the spring part numbers now) springs and NS131 shocks for the front, and 2948 springs and N132 shocks for the rear for my 2003 KJ 4x4. I'm not offroad often, and when I am, it's not extreme terrain. I don't plan on 32" tires, steel bumpers, or winch, so I figure the 1.5" of lift will keep the ride height tolerable as a daily driver, same as I had it with my Daystar kit before the springs collapsed. I can't wait to feel the difference in handling and ride control, because driving my KJ as it is now just plain SUCKS. My wife nearly lost control a few days ago due to body roll! Sears Auto has agreed to buy back their Monroe shocks because they never should've installed, according to Tenneco, due to my spacer lift. The manager was very cool about the whole thing. Anyway, I ordered the parts from my local 4 Wheel Parts store; they were able to beat everyone's prices by $30. Some parts are shipping to IN from FL, so it shouldn't take too long. Call it an early birthday present! I guess the tires in October will be early Christmas gifts. :)

Question about OME part numbers: Have the OME 948 springs always been called Medium duty? The July 21, 2010 ARB USA vehicle application guide for the KJ doesn't show a Heavy duty rear spring.

I'll upload pics after the install.

First, Congrats on the upgrade!

Yes, Rear springs only come in Med. That is the 948 that almost everyone runs.

Looks like you chose OME Medium up front instead of Heavy. Did you mean to? Or di 4 Wheel parts assume that you needed Med Front to match Med rear? Most run 927, (2927 new P/N) on the front.

Also, if you are getting the OME rear shocks, you ought to look into the NS132L shocks. They are extended length to work with the lift. Otherwise, just get some Rancho or Bilstein that fit a 99-04 Dakota 4WD or 98-03 Durango 4WD. I highly recommend Bilstein. And 4 Wheel Parts has a pretty good price on Bilstein too.

Yes. I made a conscious decision based on feedback from others using the same 926 front springs. I was torn between MD and HD springs up until I called 4 Wheel Parts. Light Duty is out of the question because, from what I've read here, the spring rate is too close to stock. My wife drives the KJ about half the time, and I know she'd object to the harder ride of HD springs up front with stock bumper. I expect Medium Duty are a good compromise. ANYTHING will be an improvement over what I have now. :-)r

I thought about it, but ARB says the N132L shock is designed for vehicles lifted 2.5 inches or more, like with a Frankenlift or OME + extra spring isolators. I'm keeping it simple and not worrying about additional height. If my rear starts out lifted 2 inches, as many claim, I expect the springs to settle down to 1.5"-1.75" within a year, unless I start towing a lot or carrying full loads.

The Frankenlift doesn't do anything different to the rear. Same 948 springs and N132L shocks.
Which is lame.. You're forced to use two extra upper ISO's to level it out.

dealer carries them, couple other places too, ive seen some junk at autozone that would probably work instead of using two or three, depending on the coil size it might not seat right in that

its not going to hurt anything tho, so no rush

The 948s do not offer additional lift over stock?

My understanding is that both OME 2947 and 2948 springs will provide ABOUT 2" lift at first, then settle to ABOUT 1.75" over time. Actual amount of lift for individual vehicles depends on which of the dozen or so springs were on it from the factory and how much those springs have sagged over time. It stands to reason that the 2948 spring, having a higher spring rate (not height), will compress less under load because it's intended for fully loaded KJs or KJs that tow a trailer.

I'm sorry, the 948's are taller than stock springs, but the Frankenlift ships with the same OME 948's. so with the Frankenlift, the front gets taller, but the rear stays the same.

Out of curiosity, I was looking at the OME catalog last night online. It lists the 927 springs as "medium" and there is a different part number for "heavy".

So why do people here call the 927s the "heavy" springs? Where is the discrepancy?

Got the OME lift installed today. Hats off to Joel and his crew at Esler Auto Repair in Westfield for a job well done!

I didn't measure the rear, but my front flares are sitting at 35", a gain of 2 inches over my dead factory springs + 1.5" spacer. I'm guessing the rear's sitting at 35.5". The ride feels better, an overall smoothness that was lacking before. As for handling, I no longer feel the steering wheel wanting to snap back after a tight turn like the back end's about to get away from me. The overall drive is better. I look forward to putting new tires on in the next month or two. I'm thinking Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs or another set of General Grabber AT2.

I appreciate all the advice and product recommendations on this forum. It's obvious now, after a few years on these boards, who knows their 4x4's. I look forward to riding trails with you midwest guys soon.
