Before you start I invite you to open your filter and see for yourself
I've opened a number of diesel fuel filters on non common rail systems over the years and have never seen anything like this.
Interesting. I recently ran a can of Diesel Purge through both my 150,000 mile TDI and 80,000 mile CRD. During the purge, I had a small, clear inline fuel filter in the supply to the engine. I poured the purge into a 1 quart glass jar and that becomes the "fuel tank" until the purge is used up.
The TDI left the inline filter looking like it was unused. After the CRD, the inline filter had a definite coating of black "stuff". Not a large amount, but it was certainly noticeable compared to the TDI.
I do know that when I changed my TDI nozzles a few weeks ago, along with a buddy with a TDI with similar mileage, my needles looked very clean while his had a heavy buildup of varnish. I'd run Diesel Purge, he had not. Both of us run other fuel treatments occasionally, so the comparison is pretty valid.
