Routing a CB wire

Ive looked at all the CB write ups here, and they all describe how to mount it, not wire it... Can someone enlighten me? I know red is positive and black is ground, but what can you use as a positive other then the battery? Id prefer to not have to lengthen the positive wire to get to the battery and i don't want to use the cigarette lighter b/c i have my phone charger plugged in there.

Actually, someone on here did mention how to wire it, but I'm not going to look for it again, I'll leave that up to you.

However, here is what I just did and it worked GREAT!... Go to somewhere that sells lots of wiring stuff, I believe I got mine at Farm & Fleet type store, get an add a fuse type device. You can plug this in to an existing 10amp fuse location in your fuse box, then you add a second fuse to it for you CB. That's where you run the positive. Then the negative you run to a good ground location! I wanted to be able to mount mine in a way that I could easily disconnect it, partially because I don't always need it and partially because I didn't want one extra thing for a thieves delight easily viewable. So what I did is got a 2 wire trailer wiring harness and hooked it up as well so that I can quickly disconnect the cb and leave all the other wiring in place.

One of the best write-ups in here is by AdamisAdam in my opinion, I'm eventually going to be copying his antenna wiring method.

Thanks for the replies, I had been putting the wire in with the fuses and it wasn't working and i couldn't figure out what i was doing wrong. Well i grounded it to the seat bolt instead of the steering wheel column.... wallah, CB. And those are pretty cool, i may buy 1 of them. And i searched for the AdamisAdam method and that's sweet!

what i have done is took a cigarette lighter adapter cable from this power inverter that i had wierd it to the cb and just have it hooked up when i need it

They have a similar device to those fuses, called tap a fuse? something like that, oreilys, autozone, advance all of those carry a similar device

it plugs into a fuse location, you put the fuse that was already there into the top of it, and it has leaders, then you'd just have to extend the cb power wires to it and snake it through the dash, take about 15 mins or so with a set of buttconnectors

the door jamb fuse box is the easiest one to do the tap a fuse at, it's how i have mine wired in

I chose a fuse selection that was on whether the vehicle was on or not for the convenience of being able to use it without the ignition being on, a CB draws less than 2 amps on receive and less than 4 on xmit, which would take over a week to drain your battery beyond being able to start it

Yeah, I tried the ones from the parts store. The accessafuse ones are way easier and cleaner. Just my opinion.

I usually power the CB using the power wire from the radio. The radio is easy to remove and it lets me know where the problem is if short happens.

I've alway's gone the cigarette lighter adapter route. Ran my CB's this way for ten years. May not be as powerful as a direct connection, but the thing turns on and with a wilson 1000 it alway's seemed to reach far enough for me.
