"The block features an incorporated vacuum pump and the oil pump is a rotary vane type. The twin, gear-driven balance shaft assembly is mounted to the underside of the block in the oil sump for additional engine refinement."

So where is this vacuum pump? Did they set up these features for dependability, or for cost of manufacture?

Most likely to save on cost, just think of all the things that use vacuum on a gasser Liberty, Power Brakes, HVAC controls, emission controls, did I miss any?

flman,
I agree with most of the controls..which emission controls are you thinking about??
the EGR is electric not vacuum..It would work better as a vacuum..not that I want an EGR on a diesel..where does the soot go..now dump the EGR air before the air filter..ok..but after..no..not so good

There is a control on the right fender behind the air cleaner, that takes vacuum I believe?

That is the turbo's vacuum modulator that controls the VNT vanes. There is a separate vacuum line that leads down into the second circle of Hell known as the back of the engine, this is (I believe) the main feed line to the vacuum motor. There must be a splitter somewhere else down there that leads up to the brakes. You are correct about the HVAC, the feed for that should enter the firewall near the heater line entrance... But I'm not certain where it is exactly. Mine works, that is all I care about at the moment.

See the brass colored tube seemingly coming from the back of the AC compressor running nearly vertical, and the bending at a little angle with a red cap over it just a few inches over the intake manifold? Thats the vacuum pump line.

What engine is that from Sam? The EGR isn't on the driver's side under the intake (and glued to the block) and the FCV is totally absent... Proving what I suspected, that the engine doesn't NEED that part at all.

Is that a marine or genset version?
Is our vacuum system the same, and where exactly is the vac generated from?

So they're using the compressor as the source? Interesting..

That is my 2002-2004 2.5 CRD in the MJ.

No, I said "seemingly" the actual pump is driven by the timing belt completely obscured from view, thats just where the source for the vacuum starts.
