I am replacing my water pump while changing my timing belt. Got the tools rented from Keith at GDE and my cams and crankshaft are pinned in the correct position. I have to remove the rear timing belt housing to replace the water pump. My question is: How do I keep the injector pump timing correct?

Just line up the timing mark on the injection pump pulley with the mark on the inner timing cover. The injecton pump timing marks only line up with the cam and crank marks once every 7 revolutions.

Take some white touch up paint and mark the pump notch I also put a mark on the intake cam at 3 o'clock and the exhaust at 9 o'clock and I also put a mark on the crank shaft pulley which will be at 3 o'clock. The hardest part was getting the timing belt around that last pulley. very tight. If you don't have the pages from Mitchell on demand from your library get it they provide very good illustrations.

I got it done! Got the timing belt, thermostat, water pump, belt idlers and tensioner all replaced.

Thanks GDE! The fuel injector pump, cams and crank marks do line up every 7 engine revolutions. And the tools are great.

It is not a hard job, just takes a little time (about 6 hours for me).
