Torque converters from Rev Max

I just talked to Frank the r&d guy at Rev Max and he makes a converter with a billet front cover and a lower stall speed for a little better fuel mileage for $399 sounds fair to me considering a new euro converter cost around $290 I think. 877-780-4334

You should speak with him regarding the lock-up clutch capacity. The stock unit on the Jeep (2006MY) is roughly 300 ft*lb and with the new Euro TC the capacity is increased to about 400 ft*lb. The clutch capacity is the weak link on this converter. When the springs bottom out it causes the clutch to slip (shudder) under heavy load in lock-up. Stiffer springs in the clutch pack allowed the capacity increase.

Frank tells me the converters will handle minimum 425ft lbs to 450ft lbs of torque and the clutch is high content carbon. Plus they can adjust the stall speed to where you want it. Frank said the stall speed can be lowered as much as 500 rpm since it is a diesel with all the torque being produced so low.

450 ft-lbs on a gas V8 or a diesel 4 cyl? There's a big difference in the size of the torque pulses going into the converter, the 4 cyl being much greater. I think I would want a little more margin.

If the stock converter is 300ft lbs and the new euro converter is around 400 ft lbs I would think 425 to 450 ft lbs would be plenty. Don't you think? I told him that it was for our 2.8 ltr turbo diesel and he said no problem. I even think the warranty is 12 months and unlimited mileage.

The front billet cover adds flywheel mass and will dampen out the 4 cylinder vibrations. Just remember to use Red Loctite so the bolts do not come loose, having the extra mass puts a little more stress on the torque converter bolts requiring a stronger thread locker. Using Red Loctite over Blue Loctite is a small price to pay for a smoother running engine.

This is great, please keep me updated. There is a lot of aftermarket support for the 545rfe but is all based on the hemi power plant, im still not convinced the "euro" is the long term solution for the great colorado rockies, ill be installing the trans go kit soon along with a new converter- just haven't decided which one.
