Kudos on a great looking job. I agree that they look right at home on your rig.

I'm not noticing any noise from the mirror. There is a very slight vibration which I expected due to their size but nothing annoying or eye boggling. Even flipped out in towing mode they are very well mannered. There's a whole new world back there that I wasn't seeing with the stock mirrors.

Im also interested in all your other conversions. the renne conversion your grille gaurd etc... where, what, who etc....

I like them.. I was using a trailer for moving.. The stock mirrors suck for using with a trailer... I like them.. I might look at doing the same for mine.. Oneday.. So many projects.. So little time.. LOL

The roof basket I had custom made from a guy who was advertising on ebay. It is an all welded steel construction, it measures 36"x36"x6". You can contact him at: BLACKOUT@NPGCABLE.COM Cost was approx. $240 including shipping.
0311_doc, It's a Hunter brush guard. I think Hunter4x4.com Don't know what you mean by a Renne Conversion ?
It's all just a bunch of other stuff one adds to personalize their truck. A few xtra bumper protectors (live in NYC area), emblems, hood scoops, running lights on roof basket, rear mounted reverse lights, back-up camera (for hitching rv), etc...

I saw Shaks pic on the other page and saw that it said 2002 sport converted into a renegade. I guess I got you two KJ's mixed up....

Hey AmericanMetal - now that five months have passed since you've installed these mirrors... do you still love them? Any other oddities other than the right/left - left/right? I hadn't seen mentioned whether the mirrors still fold flat against the chassis... I'm assuming they do?

Any suggestions for someone who is seriously considering this mod?

Thanks,

Yep still love 'em. Basically gone thru the winter here in N.Y. The heat function works great. Also nice having a spot mirror thats heated too since thats built in. To answer your question yes the mirrors fold against the door properly without hitting. Just like the factory mirror does. That's one picture I forgot to take.

I actually think they look great. I do not believe the kj has enough power to tow anything big enough to need bigger mirrors though. The crd might have enough.

Thanks for the compliment on the looks. As far as not having enough power to tow anything big enough... Go back to my pictures and look for the 5th. and 6th. pic down. There's a silver SUV in front of my Jeep but behind that next to the garage is my Travel Trailer under a cover. That's the thing I tow rather often with the Jeep and it holds its own and tows that with no problem. It's also the reason for my big mirrors in the first place. Needed them to tow that trailer behind me since there was nothing on the aftermarket.

I can understand towing something that big where its flat. We tow about 3500lbs when we load up for trips with the boat and camping. With the HUGE hills around here it can get kinda slow. I usually dont push the jeeps to hard though, I never let them downshift into 2nd of anything like that. I try to keep it under 4k rpms. It does good for our boat, I cant even tell its back there when Im not loaded with camping gear.

That's why I chose that travel trailer. It's about 8ft. wide, 9.5ft. high with the a/c on top and overall 20ft. long from hitch to rear bumper. Weight is about 3300lbs. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to kill the Jeep either. She does tow that trailer well though and I really wouldn't tow a trailer bigger than that with the Jeep. I keep 60mph at a max. when towing it. I'll only use overdrive on a flat with really no head wind. But the moment I hit a hill O.D. comes out and I drop my speed to 50-55mph. I've hit some steep grades in upstate N.Y. and overall the Jeep handles it well. Even dropping it to second gear and keeping it at roughly peak torque it pulls a severe grade. I tip my hat to the jeep, just wind it up and it goes...
I'd like to see it's competion like a Ford Escape or a Mazda Tribute do what the Jeep does. Not happening....
Getting back to the subject though. As far as the mirrors go. For me anyway... A big plus when towing the TT. Lets me see everything behind me. Enjoy...

Would you happen to have any pictures of the fab of the mounts to the existing kj brackets?

wow this is an old thread dug up. but I have to say the mirrors look ok on his Jeep, I doubt they would look as good on a total stock one.
